Anneal cases?...

Loading 44-40 with 200 grain pure lead bullet and 37-40 grains of black powder. Do the cases need to be annealed to seal because of the low pressure load or will I be OK?

It my understanding that the very thin walled bottle necked 44-40 cartridges cases seal the chamber quite well upon firing. Much better than thicker straight walled Starline 45 Colt cases which do benefit greatly from annealing to seal the chamber.

You can but realize that those thin walls will quickly over anneal.

I do anneal revolver cases but I'm careful and have a Vertex Annealer and used Tempilaq to set my dwell times. I would make an educated guess the 44-40 would be in and out of my dual flames quick.

I wouldn't necessarily say 40ish grains of BP is low pressure and I would expect it would expand those case easily.
