View Full Version : Nobel Sport Vectan Ba 7 1/2 Load Data and Chronograph data in .40 S&W

Acquired this Vectan Ba7 1/2 powder from Grafs and Sons pretty much right as the powder supply was drying up.
Their data lists it as comparable to Accurate #7, IMR 4756, and Vihtavouri N110, but I don't see that from my testing.
The data I can find for #7 (Ramshot data) seems like way too much powder for the Ba7.5.
They list for a Berrys 180HP 6.8(865)-8.0(1001). Should use slightly more for the FN vs HP.
I started at 6.0-7.0 of Ba7.5 and had a case rupture at 6.8, and just the beginnings of primer flattening at 7.0.
Note: I am using CCI Small Rifle Primers as that is all I can get...
Ran a second set at 4.9-5.9 of Ba7.5 after the failure at 6.8.

.40 S&W Berrys 180g Plated FN, Ba7 1/2 from 4.9-5.9 then another run at 6.0-7.0 All through a Glock 22 Gen 4.

6.8 / 942.3 / 13.6 Had 1 case rupture at the base. Gotta love .40... Still continued... For Science...
7.0 / 957.3 / 3.8 First signs of some primer flattening, but very little.

Seems like 5.9-6.0 may be the sweet spot for this load. Have yet to do accuracy testing. I have 5 of each load waiting for that day...

I gotta ask :) why would you try 7 grains when you had a case rupture at 6.8 ?

Already loaded and i am using range brass. I questioned if it was from the brass or overpressure. No signs of overpressure up to that point. FPS was still well within expected. And still at 7.0 the primers were just starting to flatten some. No rolling at the firing pin. Some of the brass could have been bulge busted. But I dont have the equip for that yet...

BTW , I was wearing gloves and eye pro and inspecting each case as we went.

Link does not work. I have the Nobel Sport Load Data Manual. For instance the closest listed data to my projectile is a 170 HP and they show 4.9 @970 - 6.2@1091 . My testing does not correlate with this data.

Here is another example, Berrys 165gn FN .40 same glock 22. Vectan Manual lists a 155 FP: 5.9@1083 - 7.4@1213. Vectan also says powder compares to burn rate of Accurate #7, IMR 4756...
The accurate #7 data for a plated 165gn FP says 7.9@965 - 9.3@1107
IMR 4756 data says 6.8@1083 - 7.8@1191

This was the first load I tested with the Ba7.5. 165gn FP tested at 6.6-7.6. Here is the chrono data on that. BTW no signs of overpressure here.

The link works for me, but maybe because I’m in Europe. I checked the 170 grain HP data and it is the same as you have found. Don’t forget velocity depends on the gun used, barrel length the most and they were using jacketed bullets for sure.

True True. I have a bunch of this powder so I will be working up starting extra low and seeing how versatile it can be in many calibers. This has been quite telling about how burn rate charts and comparative powders are really not reliable for any starting points.
