I received a Hornady products catalog in the mail on Tuesday and they showed having an XLR in 357mag of all things ??

My question is who has an XLR of any caliber and what do you think of it. Are they worth the money?

I have one in 45-70. Nice rifle but the sights wont adjust high enough if you want to shoot a heavy flat nose cast at any distance.

I got a 357 Cowboy and like it a lot.Accurate, good looking and fun to shoot.got 3 mtn molds for it.180PB secant,185GC lbt type and 200PB lbt type.It shoots them all very well.If you like SS guns you'd probably like an XLR.

You're getting things mixed up a little here !

Marlin makes rifles that are "XLR's" !

Hornady makes ammunition that is "Leverevolution" .

Only calibers the XLR has been made in so far are the 30-30 , 308 Marlin Express , 35 Remington , 444 Marlin , 450 Marlin and 45-70 .

Davidson's commisioned Marlin to make limited runs of 16.25" barreled stainless laminated rifles in 357 MAG , 41 MAG , 44 MAG and 45 Colt . These were not "XLR" rifles .

Now on the other hand Hornady has made the Leverevolution ammo in 30-30 , 308 Marlin Express ,32 Special , 357 MAG , 35 REM , 444 Marlin , 44 MAG , 45 Colt , 450 Marlin and 45-70.

As far as the Marlin rifles go I have one of each of the "XLR" rifles and I like them all ! I also have one of the Limited rifles in 45 COlt and it's okay also ! As to them being worth the price only you can answer that for yourself !

I have also purchased Leverevolution ammo in all the calibers I listed and to date it has done well for me on paper and deer ! As far as the ammunition being worth the cost again you need to answer that yourself . Personally I don't think the price is to terrible if you only use it to hunt ! For target work it could get a little pricey quick IMHO .

Not the first time I had things mixed up :coffee:

Thanks for the info though. I don't know if I want on or not but no one around here has one so I haven't heard good or bad about them.

I have a 45/70. It is one mean lookign big lever rifle. It is a long story, but i haven't picked it up from the local dealer where I got it shipped to when I bought it. Circumstances changed and I don't know whether I will pick it up or not. I also have a 375, 2x 444s and a cowboy in 45/70 and an old Micro Groove 45/70 that looks like coming home. I don't reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy need another 45/70, even if it one big hansome mother.
