I am looking at an Encore carbine as a way to do some subsonic suppressed shooting, and as a way to get into reloading and casting. I mostly would be shooting at targets, but would like to use it for deer hunting as well (already have permanent tinnitus; want to minimize further damage). I was planning on a 45-70, but the 460 S&W looks like it might bear some consideration, if it could be loaded with some big honking chunks of lead, since it could also shoot 45 Colt ammo for general plinking. It is a rimmed case, which is nice for an Encore, and a 1:16 twist is typical for the cartridge, which I think probably would be fast enough for stabilizing big pills.

Can a 460 S&W be loaded with 500(ish) grain boolits? I have read you get diminishing returns as you load heavier, but would like to be able to go that high, just to try it. I know the selection of boolits will be smaller at .452. Is there anything else that would make the 460 S&W harder to load with big heavies than a 45-70?

Thank you for any feedback,
