I'd gotten this mold a while back to try out in a .41 Magnum single shot rifle and hadn't time to work with it yet. Out of curiosity looked it up in the RCBS Special Order catalog and was surprised to see the sizing diameter of .406". I'd thought it was made for the .405 Winchester.
[smilie=l: Reckon not.
So what was this rascal really for? One of the .40 caliber black powder cartridges?
The lube grooves look a might small for that.
Any how, anybody have insight on this one?

I've used this bullet in an old Win 1886 in .40-82WCF. This rifle has a bore diameter of .406, I cast using #2 alloy which gives me a bullet that drops at .4075dia. I cast/lube in a Custom Sizer to get .407Dia.
It's a fine shooting bullet, gives me 3 1/2inch groups at 100yrds. Best I can do these days.

My guess is it was meant for the .40-65 Winchester. Probably for a Model 1886 Winchester rifle.

Been threatening to go with a .41 bore muzzleloader instead of the .40 I've been shooting.
Maybe this one would be good paper patched.
Maybe it might be good in the .41 Magnum rifle... we'll see.

But, but, but... [smilie=p:
Goofy state regs won't let you shoot a deer with a .40 caliber black powder rifle boolit unless you use a brass case.

So have you decided to get another mould for your 41 magnum? A few months ago, I bought an Ideal 412174 dc mould to cast 260's for my .41's. This is an older mould made for the 40-70 or 40-75 rifles. With an alloy of 75/25 ww/ lead + a couple .oz tin, these slugs drop an average of 249+ grains. With a dropped diameter of .414-.415, I size them to .4105. This particular mould is harder to find than woodpecker lips. Another good mould is the Ranch Dog TL411-255 grain. Again though, these are no longer made. The Lyman 410459 is a more popular mould and easier to find, but again, they are no longer produced. They do show up on ebay from time to time.

Those look like bad news if a person is on the receiving end.

For my purposes, hot with a .41 snub nose.
Right now it's become warm enough to enjoy casting but there's are some minor hang-ups; head ache, fever, nonproductive cough, aches, pains, lethargy, need a chicken fried steak, cream gravy... waah.

For that HPWC I ended up with ten grains of AA-5.
Out of the snubby it mushrooms quickly.
Recoil is stout but not more than I'm used to.

I too have one of the RCBS #41-260 FN molds. Rediscovered it today. Never have done anything with it. :(

Tom at Accurate cobbled the blocks up for me. It was one of his SWC designs that I wanted to use with an adjustable length base plug that Erik at Hollowpointmold had previously made for a .40 muzzleloader's paper patched slugs.
Long story short, it's a SWC design from Accurate with a really big diameter nose added to it.

Here's that adjustable length plug that got me to brain storming.

Good Cheer,
What is the weight of these bullets as a solid?
Mold number from Accurate?
With all his designs really close it boggles my tiny little brain.

Well, with that adjustable base plug being employed as a nose plug I can run weights all over the place.

I'm pretty sure the beginning design was this one.
https://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=41-210KG
And Tom modified the cavity to have the nose accept the adjustable length plug (that I already had).

Thanks.
It's a good place to start.
