Just like the title says, I'd like to find out when the 31141 was introduced. I don't have a collection of old manuals or catalogs and can't find the info online. Any other info about such bullet is appreciated also.

It's my go to bullet for 30-30. It shoots good and looks right too.

A very simple search of " history of lyman 31141" came up with this and many more, on the greatest self education tool man has ever created! That tool IMHO is the internet. I believe it may be possible that the OP has access to the internet via a post here.

The present #311 (0)41 was introduced by Lyman in 1962. I've had running arguments with a couple of machinists lately, but it is clear each replacement for a worn-out Lyman cherry is made by eye and not to CNC standards.

I would have bet it was a lot earlier than that, what with the 041 cherry number. My thought was that it was probably introduced as the 30841, but there I go thinking again.

I appreciate the replies.

I don't have access to the internet... Or least ways I couldn't find the 31141 intro date.

62 eh, hmm.

I hadn't thought to look for 30841 info, thanks.

I already knew that the original cherry number was 41, which was obviously a very early number, as I had bumped into it and researched it a little when I kept bumping into it while looking for bullets for the 32-20 and for other 32 caliber pistol bullets.

That was the good news. The bad news is I was unable to find any real history on the bullet when I looked for it tonight. I thought I had found something in times gone by, but was unable to retrieve them at this time. I can say that the old cherry was no longer available in 1936, which is the oldest Ideal Handbook I have close at hand. There is a reprint of one of the very early handbooks (#15?)around here somewhere but I can't lay my hands on it right now.

Here is a couple interesting links from "Historical mold References"

http://www.castpics.net/subsite/HistMolds/1900_Ideal_Catalog.pdf

You may notice, then again you may not, that many of the nose shapes of our current Lyman molds are just modern versions of the first not so simple designs.

Your mileage may very. But history will remain the same. I would think it would be impossible to post or ask questions on this great web site without an internet connection. :-)

OH, yes, the 30841 was in fact a paper patch boolit. As was the 31142.

My apologies. But with some of the stupidity I've seen posted, sometimes you just sit and wonder

At a guess, contemporary with or at the same time as the 30-30 and 30-40 Krag.
