my first thread on the rimfire section. i had a marlin 1897 (22lr) bore relined. only shot a few rounds thru it to make sure it went bang. after a light bore cleaning; the last dry patch showed a bit of "fuzz" still lewft in the bbl. so i thought that i would get a 22 bore lap kit. brownells used to sell one for 22lr, but no longer. midway has it as discontinued. anyone know of any sources, if it is still made?? this would be much better than making my own.

I'd go real easy with doing it, but if you wipe a small amount of auto rubbing compound or 'cleaner wax'
(it has a fine rubbing compound in it) on a round and fire it.
Its slower than jumping in with a kit, but it'll get ya to the same place.

If you're in a big hurry, auto parts store valve lapping compound will get right after it too.

I wouldn't do more than 2 shots at a time before I cleaned and checked it.
You can always polish a little more metal off, but it gets real involved to add it back on.

years ago i lapped a few rifle bbls. and fire lapped a few. the 22 loaded ammo kit instructions states that it removes only .0003 frrom the bore. that is insignificant. the kit will be much eaiser to use than any other process; if i can find one.

JB bore past on a patch wrapped around a worn brush, works good
