Does anybody know if there was ever a black powder revolver in 50 Cal

Apparently Pietta made some that took .490" balls. I think it was the guys at papercartridges had one they were shooting on youtube recently.

When I was at Ruger we fabricated an experimental Old Army using a lengthened 5-shot cylinder on a .357 Max. frame. The barrel thread diameter was increased to provide adequate strength for a true .50 cal. cap & ball. The 5-shot cylinder held 60 grains of Goex 3Fg and a T/C Maxi-ball for 835 fps or 70 grains with a .509 round ball for 900 fps from 7-1/2 inch barrel.

Never got past prototype stage. Not sufficient interest in what would have been a $1000 cap & ball revolver back then...

i have seen where guys put But stocks on 44 cal bp and I’ve seen the revolver rifles and it just got me to thinking about 50 cal in bp and bigger It’s probably a good thing I do not have a milling Machine all I have is lathe ��

There were 50 cal. cap and ball revolvers. I found this in Wikipedia.

Colt made revolving rifles larger than .50, not sure just how much larger right now. They also made revolving shotguns.

If someone started making .577 replica revolvers I'd have to pony up the bucks.
And I'd love to have one that shot .53 round ball as well.

YES! Some people take a Ruger Old Army and have it re-worked with a .50cal. barrel and 5 shot cylinder. Last I heard it was almost $1800 for the conversion. They also get a 209 primer conversion done on them too.

I'm sure if it fit a very specific need in just the right way and you'd get lots of use out of it, would be well worth it....but not for me

I'm thinking about for next year. IF I did, it would be a stainless one. MY dream .50cal revolver would be a 15" stainless Ruger.

Back in my CW Reenactor days in the mid 80's I was at an event and one of the vendors had some C&B Dragoons that were .50, I remember wanting one but money was tight so I never bought one. I think they only imported 500 if even that many.
