I'm using an MP359640 170 gr. cast with WW. Fired in a S&W 686+ 6" barrel.
Anyone have load(s) using GREEN DOT POWDER. I've developed loads using several different powder. S&W doesn't like Uniqure. Does like 800X, Blue Dot, and others.
Just need something for GD.
Thanks

In the other thread on the same topic, I gave you a link to Alliant data http://www.castpics.net/LoadData/Freebies/RM/Alliant/Alliant_2003.pdf

It looks like the 170 gr bullet in the Alliant data is a Sierra FMJ. With 6.1 gr of Green Dot they got 1070 fps at 33,700 psi from a 5.6" barrel.

You should work up to the listed charge, but substituting a cast bullet for the FMJ should not be a problem as long as you are not seating the bullet any deeper into the case.

With the 1.585" OAL used by Alliant, Quickload shows the seating depth as 0.440 based on a 1.290" case length and 0.740" for the FMJ bullet length.

If you do need to seat deeper, I can use Quickload to estimate a charge reduction to offset. I would need your bullet length and your AOL.

Thanks, P Flados for your reply. I'm using the source you referenced in my load development. I'm just looking for other sources of data for Green Dot powder. It isn't listed any of my Lyman handbooks for this bullet wt.
Thanks

1070 FPS at 33700 pressure means Green Dot is not the best choice.

I have had gratifying results with 800X and cast bullets in .357 mag. I have not used your boolit but 150 grain button nosed wadcutters and 160 grain RNFs have given me 1150 fps from a 3" revoler with 8.2 grains of 800x (listed max for a 158 grain is 8.9 grains). IMR data has 8.3 grains as max with 170 grain Sierra jacketed.

Treeman, my load is 7.1 grs. of 800-X with SPP. And 5.1 with SRP in .357 magnum pistol. They both shoot real good groups. Any weight over 7.1 grs. are a little hard to eject from the cylinder chambers so I stopped there. Blue Dot shoots real good groups with 8.3 grs. All using the MP 359640 solid at 168.8 grs average weight using WW with added tin actually 95/5 solder.
Thanks for the reply. Most folks don't like 800-X, so it's nice to find that someone else has great results with it and likes it.
