Anyone shooting round balls out of the 835 without changing the barrel. Barrel is stamped "NO SLUGS". If you are, what is your load info?

Warren, I find it very strange. How old is that gun and can you measure the barrel OD at muzzle, please.
Here is a mouth watering treat, watch it carefully for there is more in the picture worth buying a rifled barrel !

* * Holding yet another second before you pull the trigger can make all the difference if you'll be coming home with meat to put on the table or not.

* * Roll crimp is a thing of the past, we use Fold crimp for load efficiency for pressure is our friend !
The only powder I missed having the chance to try were IMR Trail Boss, Accurate Solo 1000 and Alliant Pro Reach.

From now onwards I'll be adressing my big brother " Sir Ed " about time we show some goodness, too !

835 field barrels are essentially a 12 gauge chamber mated to 10 gauge bore, about .775 inch.

With the inevitable gas blow-by, common soft lead hollow based rifled slugs could leave a ring of lead in the barrel to form a barrel obstruction.

Greetings RMc, thanks for that information.
No wonder the bigger the guy, the harder they fall.
The 12 gauge wads in 12 ga hull will not be able to stop the blow-by gases, what a shame.
God bless Mossberg.

Mossberg has listed both rifled and smoothbore, (not overbored), 835 slug barrels; although it is not clear if the smoothbore versions have been discontinued.

Mossberg has listed both rifled and smoothbore, (not overbored), 835 slug barrels; although it is not clear if the smoothbore versions have been discontinued. What exactly is the purpose of a 10ga bore with a 12ga chamber? I'd grab one of those barrels that aren't over bore while you can. Gp

The over bored barrel is to help with 3 1/2" recoil. It dose help.

The over bored barrel is to help with 3 1/2" recoil. It dose help. I guess there would be less recoil if the gas was blowing by in the barrel. Seems a poor way to get that result but maybe there is a reason that escapes me. Gp

My understanding is because of the 3.5 inch loads it reduces pressure and long shot string issues caused at the forcing cone and choke transitions. I snow goose hunt alot and shot a mossberg 835 and a rem 870 super mag that wasn't backbored recoil and patterns were better in the mossberg winchester sx4 and browning maxxus auto loaders are also backbored

The back bore won't deform the shot as bad giving better patters.

The largest allowable bore diameter for a smoothbore 12 gauge is .745"
Such a barrel is not considered overbore under (voluntary), SAAMI specs.

The use of "overbore" barrel concept gained traction early in the plastic wad era in clay target competition circles. Gunsmith, Stan Baker, is generally credited as the father of the concept with his custom .780" bore diameter barrels. A quick online search will provide more details and theory, should you be interested.
