I posted this gun in progress a couple months ago. Now it's done. Rice 38" swamped .54 barrel. Zornes lock, davis triggers. My brass castings. 15 ft. of fine silver wire and 3 ft. of brass wire. Copied from a gun by Christian Oerter circa 1774. Pretty crazy looking eh?

looking at this post, led me down a rabbit hole. I had never seen wire work or heard of the gun maker who inspired this piece. Reading about his stolen rifle being bought at a yard sale 50 years later it was pretty interesting.

Nice work

That is very cool looking. Great job! Its kind of intresting what the old timers did to personalize thier firearms and accouterments back in the days.
I guess with down time on those long hunting trips you had to have something to do.
You get kind of a different reaction from the wife now a days if you tell her you are going after some meat be back in a couple of months.

Decoration like this was done in the shop by the gunmaker who stocked the rifle. In fact 99.9% of decorated rifles you see are done by the gunmaker, not the owner.
