I just wanted to share some of my success with my BLR and the 300 WSM cartridge. I have been wanting to try one of these rifles for a very long time and last summer I decided to go for it. Selection of a cartridge was a little agonizing. I have always enjoyed my 270 winchester but I didn't like how the BLR felt in a long action. More accurately I liked how the short action felt better. for some time I have wanted to try 7-08 and was ready to go that route but I have several 30 cal molds and enjoy shooting cast. so I decided to get a 308 winchester. one of my hobbies is long range shooting I like to go out and bust rocks 1000 yards away on the other side of the canyon.I do this with my kids while hiking in the desert or in the Rockies. It's kind of like stump shooting with a bow, except with guns at long range. Anyways, I found myself looking at high B.C. jacketed bullets and saying to myself " I bet I could push that load a little faster than what the manual states with this powder or that one." I realized this was silly and right next to the 308 winchester was a 300 WSM. So I bought it. Then I bought a large amount of winchester brass for it. This new cartridge has worked very well for me. I have several 1 hole loads with it. A few are 225 ELDM at 2700 fps 212 ELDX at 2960 fps several loads with speer 165 btsp ranging from 3200 fps down to 2650 fps. One of my concerns with the 300 WSM was that I would be wasting lots of powder but I found this not to be the case. Data shows 43 grains of H 4895 to get a 165 grain bullet in a 308 winchester to do 2650 fps. The 300 WSM takes 47 grais of the same powder. To me this was acceptable. I would loose only 4 grains of powder to get 308 performance while having the ability to have high performance with the heavy loads. I know this all sounds great but this is a cast boolit site right? A few days ago I started playing with NOE xcb bullet and the 300 WSM didn't let me down. 14.5 grains of unique and this bullet gave me an excellent 10 shot group at 50 yards in some wind doing 1600 fps. I am starting to belive that this Browning BLR takedown can be my do everything rifle. Here are some photos of the loads and the rifle. 277811277811277813277814277815277816
