I’ve used this forum for reference many times through the years without participating . So it will be a while before I can post a WTB post. I’m casting .515 Lee slugs and would like to size them. I have not found any Lyman dies available. Any ideas?

I use the lee push thru. Not a lot of demand for the .510 so it is probably in stock in a few places. Easy to open up if you need larger. YMMV

I use 0.510" for both my 50/70 and 12.7 x 44R. i got my loading dies from CH4D.

I've used both in my rollers. The Lee 450 and 500 grain .515 diameter sized down to .510 but, I've also been working with this mold by Lyman. I also use 50 Alaskan brass from Starline brass trimmed to 42mm. If you look up this caliber on Wikipedia you'll notice the original diameter of the boolit used is .494 so, if your having issues with chambering and fit you can use a small diameter boolit BUT with a SOFT alloy and power it with traditional black powder and you should have no problem getting the boolit to slug up and fill the grooves upon firing.

I have Lee molds for .515. Two slug molds. Of course one comes out bigger than the other. My chamber seems plenty big, I cut brass to 50-70 length and they chamber easily, I slugged the barrel and come up with 515. I have a 510 sizer that makes easy loading but I was afraid it would be too small. If you think it will fill out I will continue to use the .510. I’m starting out with soft lead.

Yes they are pointy. Yes, the plains boolit does pretty well and I am using about 30 to 1 lead tin. Yes, .508 is close.

As long as your using black powder that soft lead will slug up good. I pan lube my boolits, use juice carton wads and I also use a wad of beeswax to deal with fouling.

I’ve read a lot of posts on here and I have made my lube and set up with milk carton wads, I have Lyman 50/70 dies.
I think I’ve over thought the bullet size
I got a nice cast iron pot on Amazon for twenty bucks, a Jim Beam basting pot. What Jim Beam has to do with bbq beats me but for casting bullets I guess it falls under ATF jurisdiction, bourbon , bullets and bull Durham , yep that’s them.

Are you using a full load of 70gr black?

My 12.7x44r Swedish M67 roller has a groove diameter of .5115”. I use the Lee 515-450 mould and size in a Lyman .512” sizer. Midway has 3 of the .512” sizer dies in stock right now. I cast 20/1 and lube with 50/50. I use 12.0 gr Unique. Easy on the brass and me. No resizing of the case is needed, but a very slight belling of the case mouth is needed to start the bullet. In seating the bullet, I have the seater die set to remove the slight bell without crimping. Without removing the bell, the loaded round will not easily chamber.

I use CH 12.7x44r dies and a Lee 45/70 shellholder. Brass comes from 50 Alaskan formed by Buffalo Arms.

No on the 70 grains of Black. I think I was getting 55 or 60 with the card and beeswax under boolit wad.
