I am wanting to purchase a Rossi Mdl#R-92 in .454 Casull but would mostly be wanting to shoot hot .45 Colts in it. Have any of you had experience with this and if so, how well does the gun digest the shorter rounds?

Thanks for advice....Jim

Mine works just fine, as does the one that handles both .357 and .38.
Here is the link to an excellent site for info on all things Rossi.

The .45 Colt model will shoot hot loads without the 15-30% premium of finding the much more scarce .454 Casull. The same receiver and internals is used for all cartridges with exception of the .454 and .480 have a threaded in magazine tube.

Mine works fine with both 45C and 454. There is apparently a few different designs with the mag tube. Mine is the only one I have seen with a notch cut in the under side of the barrel. There is a stout tab on the cap on the end of the inner mag tube that turns into this notch make it impossible to have the mag tube pullout from recoil. All the others I have seen have a little pin that fits into a notch in the outer mag tube this just adds inertia and mag spring pressure trying to pull the mag tube out during recoil. A friend has one with the threaded mag tube that pulled out. Mine has never given any problem. I really like mine but recoil is a bit stout with 310gr boolits at just under 2000fps.
The 45C version will handle anything the 454 will but it is limited to the smaller case capacity.
