.429, with a GC at 1450 FPS, a real deer, hog, bear, or moose, slayer.
It's a plain base, not a GC.

.430 dia , still playing with the length as I'm still learning my cad program for 3D . The color is what was the default in the program , like I said , still learning . You would think after 57 years that you could slow down on learning but then I went and joined this site . gezzz , ouch , that hurt a few brain cells . ROFL
Going to have to check the SAMII spec's to get the length right for the 444 and 44 Mag .
Seeing as deer season is over here in Michigan and the snow is knee deep to a tall giraffe I'm a little bored and was just messin around thats why no dim's on the drawing .
Once I get it all figured out I'll make sure to post another pic of a nicer finished "BOOLIT" for your enjoyment . :drinks:
Keith
PS : I'll work on a GC'd version for you also Mold Maker as it shouldn't be that hard to change the PB after I get it right . :)

Greetings That looks like an OK shape for most any pistol caliber...

i have noticed that if a boolit design works well in a revolver it generally works well if scaled up or down to other calibers.
rifle stuff seems to be the same also, as a design that works well....just works.
I'll be back in an hour or so.
While I'm gone, see if it would work in a 44 MARLIN rifle. I'd like a plain base at 250 or 260 grains so I could use it in the assorted VAQUEROS/BISLEY VAQUEROS.

Looks good but I would go .431 to .432. Unless your throats are .430.

The grooves are too square for mold releasing, huh?

The dia. can be changed easily enough but I was doing the dimentioning on the profile line and some things seem small to me , mainly the lube grooves . What do you guys think ?

if it was mine [it ain't] i would go with one less lube groove and a stronger base.
bout the same nose shape though.

I am not a big fan of wide and deep lube groves. There are several designs out there that the lube groves are so deep that the boolit partially collapses causing poor accuracy. The Lyman 25 cal cowboy boolit for the 25-20 comes to mind. If I was going to do anything with the lube groves I would leave them the same size and put a couple more on it.

If I drop the bottom lube groove the base band would be .150 in length , would that be too much ? Would .125 or .100 be better ?
Still got to look at the SAMII spec's but it should not change much on the nose profile if any .

joe if it was a rifle boolit i would be in total agreement.
i just think a bit more area of lube and bearing surface is the way to go in a revolver.
you really don't need lube grooves much over bout .007 deep or so.
[ain't my boolit design though].

OK , how about this model , little shorter , more lube grooves , and larger base band .

that is starting to look like a ranch dog plain base design.
nothing wrong with that.
looks like you got it to 432 though with a 292 meplat.

I'm with R5R (I thimk) I like wider driving bands, and lube grooves. A .100 base band is wide enough in say a .357, maybe .125 on a .44. I also like a wider first driving band (say.100) in front of the crimp groove to take up freebore and get more of the boolit out of the case without making the nose long enough (the unsupported part of the nose) to hurt balance or slump and cause unbalance. I do however like ranch dog's approach in wall to wall microgrooves with narrow lands and angled sides to the grooves. One should still be careful in this scenario to provide an ample base band.

I'm taking into effect that the .444 doesn't have a freebore per say , the throat is a 5 deg. taper so the only thing that could be called a throat is the area from the case mouth if trimmed to min. to the 5 deg. taper , which isn't much . :)
The .44's have a little more room to play with in the forcing cones and how much boolit is inside the case .
I think that I was trying to get a boolit that was a little shorter and still have the most weight I could get with the shallower lube grooves and I'm still not sure if it would work in the .444 with the front band ahead of the crimp groove .
I'll keep playing with it and taking note of the info I get on it and you never know when I might get the lathe going and do some messin around with a chunk of metal . LOL

if you are working for the marlin 444 you may want it to pour an even larger diameter.
the marlins have a goofy area in front of the chamber that is supposed to help lower pressures.
in my 375 i can use 379 sized boolits and maybe larger[haven't tried yet]
but i don't think trying for a 2 in 1 will work well for either not in this application anyways.
leftiye:
you are saying the same as me. at least as far as the 44 goes. i don't have a problem with the nose shape but the rest i do. i have been limited before because of lube capacity in my 44 lever guns. then get bit again by not enough bearing surface.
the rnfp in a 44 lever i don't think produces enough acceleration to slump.

OK , lets say this is for the 44 mag , rifle and pistol , just for development . :)
Here is the latest model :

i like that.
i am a bit prejudiced about some designs because of the way i cast and lube but some designs are worth a bit of extra effort.
that looks like it would work.

Here are some dims. .

Looks good when compared to the SAMII specs. .
The 2 front driving bands equal about .100 total so it should get a good grip on the rifleing before the rear band gets to the rifleing .

IcerUSA,
May i ask what software you're using?
Are you an ooper?[smilie=1:
And it looks pretty good to me, but I'm a novice too.:D

Just using TurboCad Deluxe Ver. 12 , would like to get a Pro version as you can do more with it plus get the machine code add on for it , but not this year .
I've been using TurboCad for awhile now for 2D stuff , started useing it to do stuff in collage for cad class .

that might be a good 300 gr design.
but why 3 crimp grooves?

Just messin around . :)
Could say front crimp is for 444 , second one for S&W , and the third one for Ruger's . LOL
