I am finally getting my Borchardt action. It will be a 50-90 Sharps Straight, aka .50-2.5".
Anybody got ideas of what alloy is in vogue these days?

I am also trying to get in touch with Red River Rick. Anybody got an updated url for him?

thanks,

Rich

Something in the 20:1 range will probably get you where you want to be. Fair number of match shooters use 16:1. My preference is 30:1 for general applications. No leading, easy to cast and it shoots well in three rifles.

The .45-70 with duplex loads.

1. what twist is your barrel?
2. what purpose is the gun for - hunting, paper, etc..
3. buy venturino's book "shooting buffalo rifles of the old west" - go to page 164
4. call john walters - buy .060 veg wads AND 20-1 lead

i have a "slow twist" shiloh in 50-90 that shoots the 450 and 540 (+/-) very nicely.

fwiw, buffalo arms sell a copy of the rcbs mold(s) for the bullets mentioned, made in house now. while pricey, very finely made..

and spg of course!
