Would someone be able to give me the correct length of a loaded 45-75 to be used in a '76 Chaparral....I've read lots of info but no mention of a good working length. I would be using 457122 and 457192 bullets.
Any info will be most appreciated...

Don't know about the Chaparral. The standard Win length OAL is 2.25 for the model 76. I assume the Chaparral would be similar. The LY 457122 is very similar to an original design for the 76 Win 45-75. Dunno about the LY 457192?

I also assume if it clears the end of the mag and on up to the breech by the "lift" of the carrier block then no problem. Since there is some recoil a good crimp is important. Also important not to over-crimp which may decrease neck tension and/or kill accuracy.

I load both the Win 86 (45-70) and the 76 (45-75) using the RCBS 45-300-FN at the crimp groove to an OAL of 2.3 with no problems.

The Winchester 76 and all winchesters with a toggle link action are very fussy for cartridge overall length. The cartridge in the lifter actually holds the next round in the magazine from comming out. If it is too short you will get jams the same if you are too long. I had to play with the overall cartridge length a bit in both my Henry and 1873 rifles untill I got it right.
