Can someone tell me if the beam on the 5-10 if the same as the beam on the 10-10 RCBS scale? It appears to be quite similar, except for the extra 500 gr. weight hanger, in the pictures but I can't tell definitely from the photos I have found.

Short answer, yes the same basic beam except for the + weight hanger the pan weights make up the difference between the two for the 0 adjustment. I have both and use the 5-10 way more.

The 5-10 is the hidden jem hiding under the wings of the more desired 10-10.

Wait - now my 5-10 was 40 years ago, but it had the slide for the 0-10 grain scale, and my 10-10 has the barrel for the same. Very different, unless they changed the 5-10 to the barrel.

I had a 5-10 that I gave to my best friend that had the micrometer like my current RCBS 10-10. I also have Lyman's version (M-5 or 10?) of the 1,000 grain scale, also made by Ohaus, that has the moveable weight for the small graduations.

In all actuality, I liked the 5-10 the best. I very seldom need to weigh anything between 500 and 1,000 grains.

Also the balance weight for the extra 500 grain measurement is different between the Lyman and RCBS version. Still stamped on it though.
