I found these lead pipe ends for .90 a pound. worth it or not for ML balls and plinking bullets.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210202/42caa0aeb4d9fec5f7d16e5c1c571d60.jpg

I would say it priced right. It shouldn't produce a lot of waste.

All those need is a power washer , rubber gloves and a face mask :)

Since you've got to process it and then alloy it with tin and/or antimony, I'd think it's high. Watching here you can find COWW ingots for about $1.50 shipped.

Just stay upwind when you smelt that stuff. It smelts up nicely. and is mostly pure

I would offer 75¢ a pound and go from there. Considering todays market in all things casting and reloading, 90¢ a pound isn't all that bad.

Speaking of ML balls. Thank goodness I'm not in desperate need of a .454 RB mold right now. I've always liked the look of the Remington 1858 New Army. A few years back and I came across one I couldn't pass up. Pietta brand, unfired at a dirt cheap price. I've slowly gathered everything I need for it, except a mold. Looks like I'll be waiting awhile to go any farther with my project. I could order some .454 RB's. But then again, I did join this site for a reason, casting my own. :)

If you need it I'd say yep , but trying to get a better price never hurts . I'm always surprised with how much I end up with after cleaning up scrap lead , not in a good way .
You could look into range scrap already cleaned up in ingot form for around a dollar .

Offer $0.60/lb and go from there. If it is a scrap yard they paid about $0.20/lb for the toilet bowl rims flange.

Only 60-65 cents is what I would pay. You got a lot of work there. And that white dust is PbO2.....the nasty stuff you do NOT want to breathe! Very toxic.

You will still need to do a lot of re-melt cleaning and fluxing 3X to get to something that is usable.

And then you need to alloy it with Sn and Sb to get to plinking rounds.

If you are really desperate for Pb, then buy it. I would pass myself. Clean ingots are on this site for $1-1.50/pound and all the nasty work is already done for you!

Eh, post a wtb ad here and maybe someone has a spare to sell. Either that or look at track of the wolf or a similar shop.

brewer12345,

I've given your suggestion some thought, I just haven't acted on it here on the board. I haven't checked track of the wolf that I'm aware of. Then again, I may have and simply forgotten I've already looked there. I would prefer to ask here first, can't ask for a better bunch of folks.
