I’m trying to get a good magnum load for my Ruger SBHH with cast bullets. I’ve tried Lee Liquid Alox and get leading problems around 17 grains of 2400 powder. Is there a better tumble lube I can try. I also pan lube but it is time consuming and tumble I can do quicker.

a gas check should sort it .14g of 2400 with a pb boolit was more accurate for me.

I get no leading with the pan lube. Maybe because there is more lube to be used. This is with a 44 magnum.

Curious to know what boolit and any other specifics like cartridge? I have .357 for RBH 6" barrel at bench now. Going to work up a NOE 360-197 FN & 2400. I originally purchased this for my Rossi 357 lever rifle but too long OAL. Not trying to highjack thread!

It is 44 mag. The bullet is a Keith style sized to .432. Shooting from a 7.5in barrel.

Are you applying the LLA as per Lee's instructions?

What alloy?

Lyman #2 alloy and yes. Lubed as per Lee instructions.

It’s not the lube. Your bullet is not obturating in the the groves of the revolver. Change bullets and slug the bore

I got leading with unsized bullets through my king cobra at 1375fps.Lubed 3 times with 45/45/10.
Does new lube dissolve old lube coats?

I have found TL has it's limitations. I suspect you have found that with your particular load.
Maybe it's time to buy a lube-sizer.

You could always try dipping instead of tumbling with the LLA.
I use it for higher velocity pistol loadings and all my rifle loadings.
I can get to 2k fps without any leading this way and much prefer it over pan lubing.

Is the leading at the forcing cone, muzzle or throughout the barrel?

too many things

The leading is at the muzzle more so than any where else.

Are you just dipping to the top driving band? Do you dip in straight alox?

Muzzle leading usually not an issue with a pistol. Try another tumble for a thicker coat. More lube will be deposited in the lube grooves. If that doesn’t work, maybe a slower powder.

Use Fat Boolits!

The bullets I’m using are sized .432. They have to be pushed through the throats of the cylinder. Can’t really go bigger.

His bullets are already fat, His load is under book minimum, he is using a fine alloy and he is properly applying the lube. There should be no leading. Something does not compute.

Lap your bore

Yes, dip to the top band or so.
I use strait LLA heated up in a fondue mini crock pot.
Stand on a cookie sheet to dry a few days. Once dried, they cleanly come off the 'puddle' of LLA. Before that, the puddle is still soft and they just smear and make a mess.
Then I use a plastic putty knife and scrape the dried puddles and deposit back into the pot for reuse.
Probably not fast enough if your needing thousands right away or weekly,,, but I keep well ahead and it works for me... :)

With the Keith bullet for magnum level loads having a large lube groove you might try using a Q-tip to apply the LLA in the lube groove. I hold the bullet by the nose and swap a liberal amount around the bullet then set on base on wax paper to dry.

What kind of trouble will I get from this? I cast some boolits and lubed them with Lee LA. Then I changed my mind and ran 'em through the lube sizer and applied Carnauba Red. Anyone?

Jim22, no trouble...they will shoot fine.

I tried out some more 45/45/10 and dusted some with hbn and moly.
Still leaded at the muzzle.Velocity was up to 1400fps.
