IMR Green powder

I don't hear much about this powder, but I picked up a couple lbs this week. I'd guess it is more available than most others. In my .357 rifle, this gets me a little less velocity per grain of powder compared to American Select. Not quite as fluffy as American Select. Green may be closer to Unique in burn speed. Green is faster than Trail Boss. 4.9 gr of Green under a 125 cast bullet made 1185 fps avg, across my chrono at 15 feet today.

I've used a little IMR Blue, it seems to work fine. Burn speed of this one is in the same ballpark as Blue Dot. The blue is a little denser I believe.

From what I remember when it came out; the IMR red, green, and blue were supposed to be somewhat comparable to Alliant's Red, Green, and Blue Dot powders.

From all this powder shortages I for see a bunch of playing with unknowns. Becarefull and be safe.

The IMR Green shot fairly well with mild cast loads in my 30-30. Not especially accurate in my .357 rifle, but everything went bang. I shot 5.2 gr and 5.7 gr in the latter, behind 125 cast. Very limited testing, but there it is.

Have a new rifle, 308 Kimber. Tried some IMR green along with some bullseye and some of my older loads I liked in another 308.
5.8 grains of bullseye shot a similar pattern to 6.1 grains of Green at 50 yards. Using commercial cast 115 grain bevel base. Not great groups. Velocity Bullseye 1325, Green 1295. Not sure if I should try speeding up or slower down to subsonic.

The same bullet over I4759 gave a better group but with vertical stringing.
168 grain Nosler BT for comparison, cold barrel shot number 1 off to the right, the next 5 touching.

So in 308, IMR green tentatively looks to be like bullseye.
