To try this rascal in a .458 bore rifle, anyone have thoughts on how to load card wads or other materials to prevent the gas cutting?
Card wads behind a gas check design can sometimes give up the ghost with only the small loss of support that the stepped base creates. So, this might be some kinda special opportunity for brain storming. Reminds me of the back sides of some of the early rifled cannon designs when they were trying to figure out how to make a muzzleloading projectile grip the rifling.
Maybe there's way to mold some kind of hardening material around the boat tail and have it fall off when exiting the muzzle. Or maybe a half inch of corn meal over hard cards.
