Uncle Joe does not give a flip about the future debt or the state of the country... It is all about how to progress his personal life.

IMHO, all we are doing is bequeathing our future generations with an inheritance of massive debt. However, I don't know of an alternative. Just let everyone suffer? I'm afraid I don't have an answer. BTW, wife and I have both gotten each round of stimulus. Helps us some, but if I were a single parent with children and no job (because my employer was shut down) it wouldn't go far.

The country is already bankrupt. At some point other countries will refuse to accept dollars for payment. For a preview, look at Germany after WW!.

IRS says mine was mailed 1/6/21. I haven’t seen it. The postmaster says they have been coming in in small batches. The envelope looks like junk mail, so be careful.

Yes--sort of. Just day before yesterday I made the drive to the post office and got a large handful of mail out of the box. There is a big recycle receptacle located by a table. I dump all the mail onto the table and start sorting through it, stuffing junk mail into the recycle. Here's a legal size envelope with the US Treasury seal on it and the name of a private bank I never heard of that looks for all the world like an advertisement. My hand was moving toward the recycle slot when I felt a credit card inside it. I get offers to change my credit card all the time--haven't had one for years, just a debit card--and I always salvage them from the junk mail and cut them up for purposes of financial protection. Don't want anyone attempting to pass off a worthless card with my name on it. So I open the envelope, read the contents, and it turns out this is the stimulus payment. The card has both my name and my wife's name on it, and I says to phone a number, set a pin number, and you can start using the card for transactions until the money is exhausted. It also says that once the money is spent the card will not be reloaded, and future stimulus payments will include a new, different card. I called the number, set the pin, and learned that there is a $1,200 balance on the card which means $600 each. You can incur bank charges by, one example, calling more than once a month to ascertain your balance, etc. So, today I'm going to go to my bank's drive up window and have them transfer the entire balance into my savings account and then cut up the card. That's what happened to me. Honestly---I almost trashed it.

DG,
Let us know how that works out for you. While I received a paper check, I knew they were sending debit cards to some people. So before my check arrived, I asked my Bank if I could transfer/deposit funds, if I were to receive such a card, which I figured everyone was gonna get, that didn't get the automatic deposit from the Treasury. The Bank said the only way they knew of, was to withdraw funds via ATM, and then deposit the cash. There would be fees to getting the cash out of a ATM. I am glad I got a paper check.
Good Luck,

Glad to oblige. I don't know about your bank, but mine is closed to customers except by appointment only. They keep the lobby door locked. This is US Bank. The only way to do business with them is the ATM or the drive up window. Well, I drove up to the window and explained about the card to the teller. She was familiar with them, and said she could cash the card out and put it in the savings account, but since it had both my wife's and my name on it she would need signatures from both of us on the deposit slip. Naturally....my wife wasn't along! She is disabled and dislikes going to town unless it's an absolute "must", such as a Dr.'s appointment. But, the teller said that I should be able to empty the card out at the ATM, as others had been successful in doing so (she thought). So, drove around the building and got out, waited for my turn, stuck the card in the machine, and it seemed kind of confused. It asked for the pin, then what did I want to do? I picked "withdraw cash". Then it wanted to know from what, Checking, Savings, Credit Card? It's a very new, modern machine, and usually greets me by name, shows my accounts, etc., but not this time. I didn't have a clue, so I picked "Checking". Then it asked how much with various choices up to $200. There was another choice, "more choices". I picked that one, and entered $1,200.00, and it asked how I wanted the cash, in $100s or $20s. I picked $100s and it the displayed the message, "There is not enough money in the account. Try again later." So, back around the building where I told the teller about my failure, and she said I probably should have picked "Credit Card." Couldn't have been talking about my regular checking account, as there was close to $3k in it. Back around the building to the ATM and gave it another shot. Picked "Credit Card", the rest was the same, and then it displayed the message, "This ATM does not support this transaction." Back to the teller, who was out of ideas. She said that if I bring the Mrs. in and we both sign a withdrawal request, then she takes it to the Cash Advance terminal. So, really as far as this bank is concerned it's like a loan. Not too sure what I'm going to do-- maybe call the number on the form letter that came with the card and see what they have to say. I was joking with the teller that probably the Govt. has already gone bankrupt just over the last 24 hours, and there is no money to be had.

What is typical of the federal government is that with first payment last year, it went straight into our account (savings) that we paid out taxes with in July. So far nothing has been deposited for this time. Stupid federal government. Daughter got hers, same bank, both times.

I have no doubt that there are many folks in dire need of a "stimulus check" - but let's look at a few things .

I have heard many talk about their stimulus check as "free" help from the government for a bad situation . . . . but there is nothing "free" in this life . . . what the government is doing is turning around and giving money to the people;e that is money paid by the taxpayer of this country and for which many folk's g-g-g- grandchildren will still be paying for in generations to come.

Again, I have no issues with folks who need it, getting it . . . but let's to forget the first round of "stimulus" - pushed through Congress by those who sit in Congress - it is well known that a number of Universities, businesses and just plain people who abused the system nd got the money - to include spouses of Representatives.

One question that I can't seem to find the answer to so maybe someone here can point to the facts - these stimulus checks that are "free" - are they "taxable" as income? If so - what is so "free" about them?

I can't quite place where in the Bible it is - I'm assuming the passage must be somewhere - possibly in a shrouded play on words but it has been going on since Adam and Eve - "What the people giveth, the government just keeps wanting more and more."

Noted that we are being told now be months before the rest of the funds are going to be turn over out of the 2000 we were told would be soon. Sound like we are going to get paid for them taking something away. Now what are we losing this time?

DG,
If there is some ATM fees involved, that message is likely correct...could be as much as 3% ($36 on $1200)...maybe try $1100 ? If some funds remain, maybe use it to buy gas at a Prepay style gas station...they'll know what's left...or you can call the number on the card.

Another thing my banker told me, was some people were having problems with the stimulus Debit card. In MN, Bank Lobbys were closed for a while, but are opened up now.

May I say that philosophically I'm quite opposed to these "everybody gets one" stimulus payments. I can see the Govt. helping out citizens who need the help, especially the ones that they put into that position by their Covid-19 policies. But I feel that those who do not need it should not receive it. However, it must be recognized that the Govt. has borrowed the money in all of our names, or has printed the money in all of our names which will result in higher taxes and inflation, and that will effect all of us. So, if I'm going to have to pay for it I might as well take the money. I'm sure that I'll also be taxed on it. If they offered a choice, take it or not, I'm quite certain that those who sent it back would still pay for those who did not.

Just got the debit card today.
Wanted a check, like last time.
I'll have to ask the bank how I'm going to do this now.
Wanted to deposit half and get cash for the other half.
Like a gift card, it's a pain to try to remember how much is left on it.
I've had a few gift cards that stole the last few dollars.
Plus most places don't want to take less than $10.00 in gift cards.
Has something to do with the fees they are charger for each transaction.

It's been a sad mess. I've watched as a longtime family owned business locally, is now out of business and the man is in his 50's. It's all he's ever known. His life is forever changed even with the stimulus package. That's on one end. On the other end, I've watched as one couple with 2 kids have lived it up like a young King & Queen. They've never had any extra cash and suddenly they felt rich. That, and the added money to their unemployment which they worked hard to make happen just so they could get it, I'm willing to say 90% of found it's way into the hands of the local big box store.

One bright spot I have seen. A young couple in their 30's didn't run out and buy the newest iPhones, Nike's, etc. They saved their checks and added to it from the unemployment benefits. They've now opened their own paint & body shop. I pray they make it, Lord knows we need more like them.

In a way they already have. When they did away with the stretch IRA.

Before when you hit 70 you had to start pulling a min. amount each year basted on your life expectancy and pay the tax on it. When you die and leave the rest to a kid the min. withdrawal would be based on their life expectance . If thy were to take only the min. this money could grow for many years and in the case of leaving it to a grandkid it could grow 50 years before thy retire ,and before it could be taxed. Now thy will have 10 years to pull the money out and pay the tax. This will move tax money that wouldn't have been collected for 50 years many years foreword .

Also I think the long term plan is to keep interest rates low for some time and let inflation go up. This way thy can us inflated dollars to pay for all of this at low rates.

The solution is a check and make both wife and husband sign it.

A check can be deposited into a joint account with no signatures and then withdrawn , Had this happen years ago , if it was direct deposit it will show on statement anyway . Same with the plastic card , call and activate and only needs one persons I.D. and then either can use the card .

Back with what I hope is the conclusion to my experience with the credit card stimulus payment. I returned to the same US Bank yesterday with my wife. Waited about 20 min. to get to the drive-up teller. Gave her a brief summary of my former experience, and commented to her that lots of folks, even on the internet, are really unhappy with these cards and wish they had gotten checks. She said that they (the bank) were also very unhappy, and had just yesterday received instructions on how to make them work in the ATM. She made out a withdrawal slip which my wife and I both signed in her presence, gave her the card and our I.D.s, and about 3 minutes later had cashed out the card and were plus $1,200 in the savings account. She returned the card, which I have some suspicions about, and which now resides in a pile of forgotten and expired cards of various types in my desk. The suspicions are founded in that the letter that came with the card said that you were agreeing to open an account with the issuing bank, so I think maybe you could have used the card for a purchase and overspent some and owe the bank money and financing fees. So, it's a wait-and-see, but I think that's the end of it.

I having a hard time believing that democrats would give me anything. yeah, fake news is everywhere. now if trump was still president I know he's got lots and lots of money so if he was gonna give out money there would be no question about that. In fact that check he sent me last year he even signed it himself so I know he really cares. If I actually do get something there is so many places the money could go its not even funny. the girlfriend needs a car that don't break down and the grandkids always need all kinds of stuff, the lists are long. kind of like the kid trying to fix the leaks in the dam by plugging one with a finger.

I gotta ask where's the rest of the 2K each? It still won't break even on what we paid fot income tax last year let alone what we will pay this year.

We do not feel bad taking it as we have paid all our working lives for all the deadbeats, degenerates, druggies and whores. Time WE GOT SOMETHING!

Remember, someone is eventually paying for all of this. What makes you think the "deadbeats, degenerates, druggies and whores" are going to step up then?

I'll keep saying it - we are sticking this on our kids and grandkids. Our generation is better than this.

Well, Mr. Green Head, I agree 100% with your sentiments. Problem is, they aren't our generation. The spending is so bad that I just watched a short video by a Democrat Rep. complaining about giving money to the tune of $3T to foreign countries, including Iran, China, and Russia. This fellow thinks that HIS party wants to bankrupt the U.S. Govt., and I think he's right.
