My new MP mold came in today, any advice on cleaning and lubing appreciated being this is my first mold. It came with some mold/sprue plate lube.

Tried to upload pics but it wouldn't let me. Haven't quite figured that out yet

All I do is give it a good scrub with a toothbrush and dawn. Then I heat cycle it 3-4 times, making sure to let it completely cool between cycles. This is my process for brass or aluminum. Put a tiny bit of lube on the male side of the alignment pins when it is hot.

Heat cycle at about 400 degrees? And I assume that you leave the handles off if you use a toaster oven, correct?

....and the pin retainer bars if it is a HP and it takes about 3 pours to get the pins up to temp after warming mould on a hot plate

the last ones I got from miha were much harder to clean then previous ones I've gotten from him. I guess he may have changed lubricants in his machine.
I first cleaned it with carb cleaner but then had to scrub with an old tee shirt and alcohol to get all the cutting lube completely off of it.

I do mine on a cheap walmart hot plate with the handles on. I set it on medium for aluminum molds, and medium high for brass.

Yeah that would be easier. How long do you leave it on there?

I leave it on there for about 20 minutes, then let cool till room temp. I do the same when casting. I turn the pot and the hotplate on at the same time. When the lead is melted the mold is ready. You will need to experiment with the setting on the hotplate. If the sprue takes forever to cool, turn it down a little next time. I also keep a rag with a little bit of 2 stroke oil soaked into it. When I fill the mold the first time, I cut the sprue when it changes color, and before I dump the bullets, I wipe the top of the mold and the top and bottom of the sprue plate with this rag. Go to mp-molds website and check out their tips and tricks. There is some very good information there.

The last brass one I got, the supplied lube caused some blue corrosion around the alignment pins. The two-stroke oil is a good tip. Also whatever steel tool you use to stir your pot while fluxing, and for skimming, needs to be on the hot plate if it's humid, or the tinsel fairies will be visiting.
