I dont know anyone who casts so this site has been of much value. I think i'm set up enough now to really get going on this interesting adventure.
Burn scares and all on the left hand (glove yes yes....)

Things i've learned in the last 3 months from here:
Mining RS, sorting wheel weights
Difference between mono, foundry, linotype, spacers, hanging ingots; found all of it and stop using babbit ($$$)
HCL + Zn = bubbles
Build exhaust fan
Build PID
Sn expensive; stop buying solder ($$$), find ---> melt dishes (bought some at an auction this weekend)
Alloy Calculator (put to much use)
Powder Coating (tried 6 colours shot all the green ones already)

275696275697275698275699275700275701 275702275703

Things yet to try
Have 5 lbs on Sb to try dissolving in an alloy
Remove Zn from slight mistake with a small run of ingots

Anyways thanks again

Welcome to the addiction.

Be sure to get some nice clothes and a haircut.
We'll want you to make us all look good when we see you on one of the family interdiction TV shows
and they try to drag you off to some rehabilitation center.:bigsmyl2:

Are you going to use sulfur to remove the zinc?
Take some pictures and post the results when you're done.

Yup, looks like you are beginning to have a proper setting for this fetish! Make no mistake, it is a fetish and oh man is it fun! I like casting as much as I like shooting and that says a bunch. Have been at if for nearly 30 years, only have 100 or so moulds and sometimes feel almost naked...

Have fun, pay attention to what your moulds tell ya and make lots of boolits! :)

Side note... just noticed this is post 1776 for me... awesome vintage.

I'm grateful for this site, The decency and maturity is really appreciated. I'm looking forward to casting 9mm and pc'ing them in Vermont green. also want to cast .410 slugs so I can put my mec to use. I have 4 5gal buckets of range lead, a few bars of tin and a gal of linotype, I've been collecting for a while, just being patient while I research and save for other necessities. Hard to find time to set things up, with the day to day workload, have a 30lb propane tank I need to modify for melting scrap into ingots, anyone use wood for melting heat? my idea is to run a blower on the fire that pulls the fumes off the pot and sends them into the fire. Just so much to set up little time to do it. but I'm young so I have time haha.

Welcome! Take your time and enjoy the ride. Been casting for 62 years and I still learn new things every day. I don’t know if I like casting, reloading or shooting the most. Yep you’ll save hundreds of dollars and it will only cost you a few tens of thousands of dollars!:bigsmyl2::cbpour:[smilie=l: Tim

Thanks for the encouragement. did my first HP rifle ones today. 270 lee mold are they suppose to have this ununiform frosting? seems to be one side routinely and just above the top lube grove
