I believe it was 1998. As good as this place is , I still miss the old Shooters board.

Yep it is good the membership is growing and the truth and the light is being spread, but with 7,000+ members, the place just isn’t the same.

I kinda think the Shooters board went back earlier than 1998.

I was a member of the old cast boolits after shooters quit.

What did everyone like about shooters, and why did it fold?

I joined Shooters in 1998 and it had been around awhile. Besides cast bullets,it had several topics and they could be read chronologically. Didnt have moderators---they once asked if we wanted them and I was very blunt that I didn't. For that reason felix designated me as moderator and some thought I was---but it was strictly a joke.

Ray-

I'm glad I caught you. Do you have instructions on how to set up and run a Belding and mull powder measure?

I've got this beast here and don't have it all figured out yet.

Pat---The B&M measure consists of two parts. I mention this as I've seen em for sale without the charging tube---about like a car without engine. The charge tube comes in two types--old style slide only and the newer style(probably old enough to draw social security)micrometer setting. They come in two sizes--standard and the larger Magnum. This charge tube is the heart of the thing. Whichever style you have, you are adjusting the size of a cavity. This cavity is adjusted until you have the desired powder weight. B&M did produce a "rule of thumb" chart so that you could dial in the apx setting with the micrometer tube---but it was a WAG(can I say WAG here?) You need a powder scale and throw a few charges until you have it right and then lock the setting in place with the set screw. The full name of the measure is SPLIT PARTITION VISIBLE POWDER MEASURE. Almost sounds like someone from Herters named it. Reason for the name is that at the bottom of the hopper there is a cavity that is separated from the main column of powder. This is the split partition. This is so that every charge is thrown from a column of the same weight--Throw a charge and that smaller cavity refills ---and you can see that it does through the window---the window is reason for the VISIBLE part in the name. The B&M handle slides sideways when you throw a charge--unlike most where the handle is pulled down. For this reason you get sideways torgue and with the thumbscrew that clamps it down, you wont be able to stop it. Cut a rabbett in a board for the measure to set in and screw a metal strip to either side of the measure. Once you have it mounted solidly it works much better. When you use it,be sure you insert the charge tube all the way---slide the handle and you have a charge which is then put into the cartridge with use of a funnel. If the tube is not full---you can see that. You cant overfill the tube. For these reasons I have yet to find a powder it will not meter. Probably slower than most measures---but more accurate. Isn't accuracy what you are looking for? Any of the instructions not clear give me a shout and I'll give it another go.

As far as anyone could discern the owner of the old shooters board, (Allvertical Inc. I think it was) just got tired of it and quit.

Cast Bullets (Shooters didnt call em boolits) was one of a number of topics on shooters. At the time we probably liked it because it was what we were used to. We couldnt post pictures and there was no chat. Waksupi and Carpetman were talking about sheep back then too.

I'm glad we got rid of that old software, and I hope that everyone has enjoyed the merger with GunLoads.

I joined Shooters as soon as we got our first computer and internet connection. Still have the computer- a Gateway system that cost me $2800.00 in 1997!!! God knows what I could get for $2800.00 today, a lot of computer that's for sure.

Sorry for the highjack-

I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I feel like a monkey on the planet of the apes looking at a zippo lighter with this thing. I must be missing a part or something. PM coming.

edit: Oh I think I got it. You don't dump into brass like other measures. You dump the charge bar into a funnel, into the brass each time.

Both my Now wife and I met on the live Shooters Chat in 1996. It closed before the boards did. She was in Australia and I was here in Ga.

Both RedFoxy (Magnum Maid) and me , Rabbit were mods on the chat.

I was on the forums too, as Rabbit.

The Admin for the chat was named Chris.

There are still some other members of that original Chat over at our chat board.

If anyone wants the address, PM me and we will send it to you. It is a moderated Chat, that is mainly Outdoors/guns orientated, but as with any Live Chat most anything (No OFF Color Stuff Allowed).

A Long time ago but good memories.

Ohhhhhh, if you like a moderated chat, you may not like the one on this board. The stuff that isn't allowed on the main board, ends up there!
