Nice looking rifle! Straight bolt handle? That's unusual.

Truthfully, I haven't seen many sporters with straight bolt handles, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, and looking at the location of your receiver sight I can imagine a chronically skinned knuckle if it was bent. A bent handle on your rifle would necessitate a backward sweep to avoid the problem. A very nice, unique rifle.

Looks like a Richards Micro-Fit stock.

I'd like to see a close up of the recoil lug( unusual for an after market stock), the butt plate area, and the forend a few inches back from the Mannlicher cap- I could be very wrong but I suspect a very nicely converted military stock?

First thought seeing that stock was JL Herter, he had roll over mannlicher semi finished late 60's. In 1969 I got a semi finished Brasilian rosewood roll over stock for mauser, it cost $35 you could buy a decent walnut stock from them for $10. Brand new J9 mauser barreled actions were $59

I think that TbG is right-- it looks like a very well done conversion of the original military stock. Whomever did the work had a lot of talent in shaping the pistol grip area. More wood could have been removed along the outside of the barrel channel for a lighter rifle (still could). Too bad about the holes behind the grip cap, but they can be filled. They may be sling swivel screw holes, although they seem a bit high up on the stock for that. All in all, a nice rifle and worth keeping; especially if it has a good bore.

Weight is somewhere under 7#...don't remember exactly. Shoots well, I wish my eyes were better able to handle the peep sight.....do you think the wood looks like military grade?

Some keep the bolt handle straight if you shoot lefty. I don't shoot that way, but my step son does. Very nice rifle indeed!

Does the wood look like military grade? Could very well be. I have some Krag rifles with full length fiddle back. When the Mauser factory was turning out tens of thousands of rifles to fill a contract they did not weed out the stocks with fancy figure. You got lucky.....

I have two Mauser 98-22 s that have Fiddleback stocks.
They are not in the greatest shape , but I should be able to refinish them and they will look very good.
They will look refinished, but these don't seem to have a real high collector value.

A very nice looking rifle! I have seen some really nicely figured wood on South American Mausers. My Dad had an unfired 1909 Argentine Infantry Rifle that was fiddle back full length of the stock (I'd like to know where it went...); I had a CZ 24 JC Brazilian with very nice fiddle back for about 2/3 of the stock. A collector on another site stated that the German Military considered figured wood to be prone to breaking, so it was rare to find it on guns used by Germany. Apparently, the South American military folks weren't as worried.

All the best - Dave

I had a 98 in .308 that looked very much like this rifle, straight bolt handle with peep . You have a fine looking rifle, congrats .

Here's one that has a little character. Flash wiped out the maple diamond covering the original hole for the recoil lug. I've tried reshaping a couple of beater Mauser stocks to look similar to this but haven't had any real success. If the OP's stock is a converted military stock the guy did a very nice job.

You could be correct. The lightening strike grip cap spacer was their specialty.

I miss the "old Herters" they had everything back when a dollar was worth a dollar. Those Herters(J.P. Sauer) 6 shot revolvers for $60 would be nice to have around today, heck I'd even pay twice that for a new one, maybe 3 times.
