Just picked up a rem 700 in 8mm and got a pile of ammo with it and a box of hornady 150s and a box of 170 speers. Looking for a rem level top end load for it not a weak mauser load. Any suggestions.

For 8x57 +P [these are from older pre-SAAMI manuals] I have tested and used for numerous years. Measured psi is less than SAAMI MAP for the 308W [62,000 psi]

Winchester cases
Winchester WLR primers
Hornady 150 SP loaded to OAL; 2.985"
Sierra 175 SP loaded to OAL; 3.180"

H4895; 51 gr [pretty much 100 % load density]

Out of my 23" CZ24 barrel the 150 Hornady runs 2925 fps (duplicates the 150 gr German WWII velocity). The 175 gr Sierra SP runs 2780 fps. Both shoot moa or less (5 shot groups and 1 1/4 moa with 10 shot groups).

Suggest, as always, to drop back a bit and sneak up on those as your rifle may not have the throat the milsurp CZ24 has.

The Lyman 45th has some good loads for a strong gun and they were tested in a 98. My favorites for my old BRNO/ Shaw were 52 grs of IMR 4064 with the Hornady 125gr "varmint" bullet that dropped deer like lightning- sadly a discontinued bullet. I used 50 grs of 4064 for 175gr Sierra for Mule deer. My last 8x57mm was a Tikka T3 and it shot great with everything but a load that stood out was 53grs of CFE223 over the 170 Hornady SST.
That 700 Classic you just got is one I always wanted- congratulations.
The 8x57mm is pretty much where the modern cartridge began.
