Got out to the range today with my 45-70 to try a variation on my favorite load.
With the colder weather I have noticed my accuracy deteriorate slightly and I have thought it might be the boolit lube being too hard. I have been using White Label's BAC. A friend had given me his recipe some time back and since he was kind enough to share it I won't repeat it here other than to say it is based on beeswax.
Right off I will admit to a few fliers today but they were only an inch or two out.
At 100 yards. I shot several 5 shot groups without fliers that measured around an inch. Not bad but I am still looking for an honest one hole group and I have shot 3/4 inch groups with this load and BAC lube over the summer.
With some ammo left I decided to try 200 yards, after shooting a couple of sighters I took off a inch on the scope (2 inches at 200 yards) and proceded to put 5 shots touching each other in a horizontal string that measured 1-1/4 inches center to center. Not believing what I saw I raised the scope setting 4 inches and shot another 5 shot group that was more circular and measured 1 inch center to center.
I had been looking for groups of 2 inches or so and was very surprised at these last two groups, I can only conclude that the boolits aren't stabilized yet at 100 yards.
