Has anyone seen a muzzle loader like this before. I don’t think it was made for the military. Maybe for home defense 150 years ago. Maybe last chance to do in a wounded hog or deer.
Sorry it’s in French, but the pictures tell all.

If bore is larger than 10-ga. expect it was for market hunting waterfowl.

With the bayonet suggest for military use.

I don't think that INDIANS would charge with that gun facing them??

Interesting. Nice lines to the gun. It looks like a cape gun.

Is it rifled or smooth bore ? Or one of each ?I'd say fowling piece but the pig sticker on the end ain't really useful on things that fly so who knows

Bayonets scare the hell out of everyone. Even the people who are supposed to use them.

Barrels are long enough to darn near reach the low flyers.

Obviously the "pig sticker" is exactly that: this is made for hunting wild boar.

Bayonet seems awfully short for the time period. I suppose a compromise to fit it into the stock, but still...

"Fusil" = rifle...……

The neck of the butt stock looks like a tang sight was removed & the inletti9ng filled with wood.

Probably a hunting gun, as the bayonet was commonly used on wounded wild boar that was reluctant to expire - aka: pig sticker.

Don't forget - once the barrels were fired at a dangerous animal, there would be scant time to reload, ergo the bayonet.

Can you imagine the size of the gun safes, back in the day. Chuckles
