Picked up one of these barrels for my TC 83 in 30 x 39 ( 7.62 x 39 with .308"bore) made by SSK. First one I have ever heard of in that caliber, course when MGM gets done I will have the only barrel in 38-72win, for that gun also.:drinks:

What are your favorite loads?. Plan on boolits of 170gr and heavier, but will first try the group buy 30-165 silh. and then work up. May try the 30-130silh. boolit also, but always had better luck with the heavier slugs.

Course, with the snow on the ground and it about 20 degrees out, range time is going to be a challenge.

Thanks.

Well, well,

My 7.62x39 (.310 bore) Handi Rifle really liked the 311407 "Fat 30" 180gr group buy slug sized to .311" pushed by 24.0gr of H4895 powder. Tried up to 25.0grs but the groups opened up. This slug was seated out to 2.215", so it'll work for my single shot - but not SKS/AK mags. The gas check on this one "hangs" out into the case, but it shoots great for me. Wish I could get the GC sitting in the neck, but they don't have that much neck & I'd have to size down the front half of the slug a bunch.

Shot a 4 pt deer with it this season - both lungs/top of the heart - piled up in 40 yards, dead. Load chrono'd on a cheap chrony at 1880 fps.

Tried my hand at a pop-gun (catsneeze/whisper) load using the 160 Lee TL boolit for SKS/AK using 5.0 gr of Unique. Wasn't as quiet as I wanted, but it did shoot good, but much more drop.

I need to try the 311041 slug in it, but the other shoots so good...hate to mess with it.

Hope that helps you, rockrat, I owe ya.

I have a TCR 87 that came with a 45-70 barrel. Being unable to find another barrel for it I made a monobloc and stuck a 7.62x39 small ring Mauser barrel that I had hanging around.

It shoots well enough for me. If I ever get around to it I have a 243 barrel to mount.

i think the 30 x 39mm is what i refer to as 308 x 1.5" barnes developed in 1960. I am trying to get a barrel made to fit a Handi-rifle in this caliber. for shooting suppressed 30 cal this does a lot better than downloaded 308.

No, the 30 x 39 is what I described above. I have another gun, in the same caliber, a MOA pistol that I used to use in IHMSA.

Dragonrider--that is one fine piece of machining, on that monobloc. You could probably sell those if you would decide to make others. MGM would use some, I would bet.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Got any pics of your rifle, especially the action with the barrel separated. There used to be several sources for barrels for these rifles, as far as I know they have all dried up. But to answer your question, I think it will but cannot guarantee it. Nor do I know if the TCR 83 and TCR 87 barrels are interchangeable. I have started on the mono bloc for the .243 barrel mentioned earlier. Will get some pics as I proceed If anyone wishes to see them.

Dragonrider;

I used to have a drawing, but just two weeks ago while playing with my drawing program I somehow wiped it out, so I am redrawing it now, almost done, PM me in a couple of weeks about it.

The barrels are readily interchangeable, as I've had both the TCR-83 Aristocrat and the TCR-87 Hunter.

The only real differences are the finer/brighter exterior polish/finish and the DS triggers on the Aristocrat.

The non-magnum Aristograts (they WERE also issued in 7mm Mag) used to be upgradeable to magnum barrel use, if the receiver was sent back to the factory for same. The U/G'd receivers were returned, marked "magnum" on the bottoms.

I looker on t.c. web site and what I have is tcr 83 I believe. Looks like tcr87 but has double set trigger . the way I read there site I think they say that the 83&87 are interchangeable . I took some pict. and compaired to your pict. of the block you are building ,look the same. I will post pict. later[ I don't know how & my better half is under the weather at present.]

I've got a TCR 87 Hunter, too, in .7-08. I've got an Encore .308 that I'm trying to dial in subsonic for cast boolits. It isn't working out too well with the RCBS 200 gr. silhouette. I'd really like a 7.62x39 chamber with a .308 bore with a 1:7 or 1:8 twist. If I could get this setup barreled for the TCR it would be fun, too.
