There are a few threads about this and I have been reading them trying to make this boolit work in my Polymer80. I gave up on it a while back, but I have a different barrel (Lone Wolf) and have been trying it again. If I load them short like this one @.975274486
I get FTFs like this:
274487

Here are the points of contact:

Case hits where feed ramps transition to the chamber. You can see a gouge in the brass. I have since slightly eased that sharp corner and polished it. It doesn’t gouge into it now. 274489

Hits the top of the chamber at what looks like right at the case mouth, but I see a dent in the tip of the boolit so it may be hitting there. This is a dummy round that has been chambered several times.274490

I tried loading a lot longer which makes the boolit hit the top of the chamber and the round would go into the chamber, but then I get a lot that don’t quite go fully into battery. I think the sharp edge of the SWC boolit is catching on the lip where the case headspaces.

I am tempted to do a little more dremelsmithing on the area of the barrel where the feed ramp meets the chamber, but don’t want to create a weak point. Looking for ideas.

Here is the current amount of unsupported case.

That does seem a little excessive. Can I ask why you're using .358 bullets in the 9mm barrel? I'm asking because I was considering going to cast bullets for my LWI 40-9 conversion barrel.

I am currently sizing the boolits down to .357.

Bashby, the critical view of the cartridge in the chamber is showing that the case head is even with the barrel hood. The photo in the thread appears that the case head is below the top of the barrel hood and that is seated too deeply. Is the cartridge chambered so the case head and barrel hood are even?

Gotcha, I'll now sit back quietly and wait for actual help to arrive so I can learn something.

I size to .358 and seat them almost flush. Try seating them deeper. I shoot these in several 9s that have had no polishing whatsoever done and they run fine. I am currently loading them over 4grains of Promo.

I think I’m following what you’re asking, let me get a picture at a better angle so you can see that it is flush with the hood.274495

I have tried seating them almost flush with the same results.

I also polishe the breech face, though whatever coating the Brownells slide has didn’t get that mirror finish look to it.

There was a little sharp edge on the breech opposite the extractor that was digging into the rim. I ever so slightly removed that and polished it. Might need to do more but I worry about unintended consequences.274496

I load them for my HK at 1.00" oal. Feed great and fits the chamber.

The only thing I don't like about them is a very narrow window of velocity vs function, ie, it is near max before it functions 100% (slide fully retracts to pick up next bullet).

more crimp needed here. I had the same problem with some trucated cone boolits in my 1911 and increasing the crimp solved the feeding issue for me.

I bought that mold specifically for shooting it in a S&W 459, and I size to .358. I have several Glocks, two are 40 S&W with Lone Wolf conversion barrels. The AR 15 9mm carbine does not like anything but RN designs so I pretty much cast those for 9mm. My wife likes the 105 SWC in a 5 shot snubby so that is pretty much all I load for her, but she also likes the Lee 358-125 RF. I have loaded the 125 RF in 9mm but I pretty much stick to RN.
