I have a Winchester Model 70 (post '64) 30-06 that I'm trying to mount a scope I already had. Problem is the eye relief on this scope is not NEARLY long enough with the mfg. recommended mounts. I have mounted many scopes in the past with no problems but I can't seem to get this one figured out.
Would appreciate any help from someone who has had this problem or can suggest where I could start looking for a solution.

They make extension rings to allow the scope to be moved farther forward or back. I think there are also 1 piece bases which have different cross slots for mounting the rings. My Ruger #3 30-40 and 45-70 I used extension rings to move scope back.

The extension rings will give ya a little more, or less eye relief.

You have to look for them from Midway, Natchez, Brownell's, etc. but they're out there.

What brand of base and what kind of scope? I may have some extension rings lying about.

.

FWIW, newer scopes have main tubes much shorter than older/fixed power scopes, making eye relief an issue with "normal" ringsets

If you don't find what you need here, look for the one piece picatinny rail type scope mount. Google it and you'll probably come up with a bunch of different picatinny rail mounts. Some offer both straight rails and other offer20 and more degree sloped mounts. Frank

Most modern scipes don"t have a long enough tube or long enough eye relief to work on any bolt gun with a long action.
Old Weavers have both long tubes and long eye relief. These are the El Paso steel tube K models. One of the Burris 2X7 Fullfields fron 30 years ago also have long tubes.

I had that problem with the Wincheter XPR I bought a year ago when I switched scopes to a shorter one. I got by with reversing each of the scope bases to reduce eye relief.

Perhaps a picatiny rail may help, due to multiple eye surgeries I have problems with eye relief on my rifles and the rail helps immensity.

Thank you all for your input. I'm looking into picatinny rails as a solution.
Thanks again for you advise.
