I found a very good deal on a box of 50 Lyman Snovers, so I can try them put before buying a mold. I need some suggested loads. I have several pounds of Old Eynsford 3F on hand, so I want to work my way through that before buying a bunch of other powder. In fact, I shoot 3f exclusively in my flintlocks and cap and ball revolvers, so it would be super cool if I didn't have to try and sort through a bunch of different grades of powder.

So, if anyone has any suggestions for a load to start testing with, I'd be grateful. If not, I'll probably start somewhere in 55g range and work my way up. It's for a 400g bullet in a 1/16" twist barrel, BTW.

Never shot any of the OE 3f in the 40-65, but 62 grains of 2f with a .030 fiber wad shoots very well with that Snover bullet. With that 3f, I'ld start by figuring out how much it will take to reach the bottom of the bullet, then add the wad and compress enough so that when the bullet is seated it just makes firm contact with the wad.

I don't shoot the Lyman Snover, but I have a snover mould but don't like the bullet. I use 3F OE in my .40-65 and it works very well with my .40 caliber bullets.
Start with .200" compression with the bullet you use and give out a shot :D it should be close.

You don't say what rifle you are using, but the Browning with the little bit of freebore just loves the Snover.
About 58 gr 2F goex and it was a dead ringer.
