My guess is a Dan Wesson barrel nut tightening/removing. I never seen one like this but the spanner measures about right for my .357 DW wrench. The one I have is a T handle. The later barrels used a spanner instead of a star ahaped nut. It may be for a .44 mag, it depends on diameter of the plug.

This is likely the correct answer. The newer DW's had an issue with the barrel nut getting semi-frozen in place and the factory tool was nearly useless to break them loose. This would be an after market tool.

Yes. I believe wv109323, that you are correct. I searched on line and saw a similar tool that inserts into the DW model. I will drag it out tomorrow, put the calipers to the cylinder, and report finding.
