So I had a chance today to shoot a mature buck with my 350 and cast boolits.

Last summer I bought a 125$ med wt Midway barrel for my ar-15.

Installed and shot some. Neighbor offered to pc some lee 20:1 bullets, I said sure.

Shot some did ok. Neighbor said if you can't get a deer shot come over and sit here, I said sure.

So I went over this afternoon and set in his blind. Watched 30 deer 1/4 mile away and then saw the big one come in, lay down and fall asleep. I looked at my phone and saw Iowa state football team was toast.

Waited some more. Watched some does go by and then the big one came in.

I had my crossed sticks, made a solid rest, He was a long ways out,but a solid rest.

Boom, 21 gr win 296 Lee 200 gr powdercoated sent.

Hi shoulder shot, bang flop.

200 steps deer down but flopping, shot again and all over.

All I could do to load in the pickup.

If someone pm's me a phone # I will send a picture of the biggest one I ever shot.

I'm impressed with the 350 legend.

OldBearHair,
Congratulations!
I too took a deer (small) with my single shot CVA scout t in 350 legend.
I had at hand the pc coated 147 gr sized at 357 and it went through and through. It run less than 50 yds down hill.
My deer was a small nubber and I was very happy. I am sure you are super happy because yours is a. Ig buck.
Congratulations and keep up the good shooting!

CONGRATULATIONS on that buck and MERRY CHRISTmas!!

It was a first for the 350 Legend for me too! Hunted it last year late season and didnt get a opportunity. Hunted it late this year again. I had let a spiker and forkie pass 4-6 times and decided the last Saturday Id use the legend with a MP 359-220 HP cast in 20:2 and powder coated. Loaded with 7.7g Herco. Bullet impact was ce ter heart nearly dead broad side slightly above animal. Exit that I was surprised to find was right at tip of opposite elbow about Quarter. Took rib going in and out. Pulped onside lung, 2" hole thru heart and two inch hole theu back side lung. Very little meat loss to bloodshot.

I have taken a number with my cast bullets years past. But this was first with Legend and first subsonic kill, color me impressed.

I am glad to see the reports coming in about successful hunts with the 350LGD. I had no issues with coyotes (shot/flop) but have yet to take a deer. I allowed hunters on my land this fall and they filled their tags on Does, very large for this area at 140# and 145# after field dressing. We weigh due to increasing CWD issues and weight is a great way to determine signs of CWD.

I looked at my phone and saw Iowa state football team was toast.

Bummed about that myself. I graduated from ISU in '88 (Ironically I grew up in the very heart of Hawkeye territory, Iowa City). They had a shot to pull out the come from behind win, but it wasn't to be. Still, to end the regular season with the best record in the Big 12 shows how much Matt Campbell has turned the program around. Will be interesting to see what bowl games will look like this year. GO CYCLONES

Anyway, congrats on the deer hunt. Since we are limited to 1.8" straight wall cartridges in the "limited firearms zone" here in MI, I have been thinking about getting a 350 Legend. From what I'm hearing, it is working well for the ranges that the vast majority of deer are shot at.

I lived in Iowa City for many years and graduated fom the UofI; I guess that makes me a Hawkeyes fun.
That was the best place to go hunting for me. Lots of public lands and lots of deer. I wish I was still there but I cannot complain about Missouri either.

Wow, They grow big on your place, Depaki.

I am looking forward to the picks, Mulespur and Larry G. Can you educate me a bit. Does the 350 L's barrel spec out for .357 or is it more for the 9mm bullets? At $125 that may be a good project to look into. I suppose new mags are in order to feed correctly? Congratulations on the big buck. Your neighbor is the best, eh?

Chris,

Yes, Minnesota has the record for the heaviest white tail buck at #400!! Taken 3 hours north of me in Tofte, Minnesota.

Sorry if I ma stepping on Mulespur and Larry G's toes but with 5 rounds or less, I have been able to stumble my way through with standard AR mags. I do have several 350LGD dedicated (CMMG) mags now that are able to feed all 10 rounds but have yet to pick up a 30 round mag (if there is such a thing).

In this pic, I have loaded 147gr FMJ for plinking and they run very well in my 350LGD-AR.

Good afternoon and Congratulations Mulespurs !
Not many more fellers who hunt with cross sticks. They sure will steady a rifle for the shot. Well done!

That is a nice buck! How much drop was there at 200 steps and did the bullet exit? Well done, sir.

Bullet drop was an educated guess judging from my range practice target.

Shot was quartering to me left to right. No exit was found and no bullet as of yet. Maybe it will show up in a rump roast this winter.

I filed the ribs out of 2 plastic Pmags, 10 rounders.

It seems that maybe it feeds better if mag is not crammed full, like loading 7 or 8 instead of full.

Got one like that on my place. A 10 year old boy hit it in the back left leg with a cross bow. He's still limping around here... Him and his dad are still hunting him..on my ground. The deer have changed food sources sense first gun season...

A good NW IA buck! And with a cast boolit to add to things! Nice trophy.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Now to cast up a summers supply of boolits and see if I can beat my buddy's record. He was shooting a Ruger American I think, something like 16 gr VV N110 and he shot 3/4" groups at 100 yd on 2 seperate days. And he was shooting my boolits, no gas check, powder coated by another buddy.

The boolits were cast 1/20 lead/tin or softer

And the experiment continues

Available ammo for 350 Legend @ 704 Tactical $31.99 + shipping total maybe $43.00. Well, got the rifle put together. Put up new 4 ft x4 ft paper on the target. Loaded three rounds with H110 and 125 gr. 9mm (.356 ) with slight crimp. Can see the bullet print on outside of the case. Plunk test seated. boolits were run through sizing die to .355. Slugged the barrel pushing a soft lead bullet through. Measured . 350 down to .343. Went outside, loaded three rounds in mag. Released the bolt. Did not chamber. Pulled magazine, locked bolt open, cleared the round. Put one in the barrel. Released the bolt and put in the mag. Pulled the trigger, Nothing happened. After long wait, saw the bolt did not close. ( Stop right there! Extract the round). Instead pushed slightly and the bolt chambered to battery. Now no way to pull the side mounting bolt back. It needs the gas pressure to unlock the bolt. The question is How to proceed? I am thinking to remove the stock, but what say you guys?

Yeah, Mulespurs, sir, that is a really nice buck. Have you measured it yet? Nice when they are really hard to load in the truck! It will be nice memories hanging on your wall. Congratulations

OldBearHair. If your rifle is an AR 15 type with a side charging handle, put a brass rod against the base of the CH/bolt junction at a 45 degree angle and tap lightly with a light hammer. Go easy. The bolts holding the side charging handle are pretty small and easily bent. Good luck!

Mulespurs, that is a DANDY buck. Congrats!

Buck scored 155, I thought he looked bigger to me ,but I didn't run the tape.

Bearhair, you might try some starline brass. My sample was thinner walled and chambered easier.

I had too mess around with my crimp quite a bit,not too much and not too little to find a sweet spot.

Some ar mags have been fussy after I modified them, I would try a factory mag as well

All the best Ray
