I just bought this mold from a member in Swappin and Sellin and will load it in .45 Colt. I'm wondering if anyone has successfully loaded this boolit in .45 acp/AR to something like .445 Webley velocities with part of the boolit exposed? GF

Gray_Fox,

I will post essentially what I PM'd you about this for the benefit of others:

Yeah, not a lot of load data out there for .45 full wadcutters. The key is going to be what lube groove you crimp into (i.e. your COAL). The bullet has 5 lube grooves. There is no need to lube more than the bottom 2. So, if you use the middle groove to crimp into, you will have about the same amount of bullet in the .45 ACP/AR case as the Lyman 238gr 452423 bullet in .45 AR, and I see no reason why you can't use that STARTING load data to see what it does for you. If you feel that your loads are under powered, you can either add more powder or crimp in the next groove above what you were using. No doubt, this is going to require some load development work on your part.

In the 1911 45acp make sure the end of the first boolit will clear the slide stop when inserting the mag. I had to modify a slide stop a little. After that the boolits are over the slide stop with the mag seated. I have a 4 cavity 452460 Lyman custom mold that drops a 454-250 grain wad cutter I use --seated like the original 200 swc. I am using 4.5 of American Select in my Kimber 1911. It has 2 lube grooves and I really like it. The over all length of the loaded boolit is the same as a 200 grain H&G long version.

Having any significant amount of full caliber bearing surface outside the case mouth leads to chambering problems in many if not most instances. Load a single round at the chosen length and try for fit before considering any particular seating depth.

If the length that fits seats deeply in the case consider the problems that come with that. Auto loading pistols of course are also limited by feeding issues revolvers do not have.

5.0 grains of Red Dot has been useful in my own 45 Colt revolvers with a 454-309.
