Doe harvested with Air Force Texan 457 and Swaged 281gr Boolit

I know this is for cast boolits but I thought this was close NSA swaged 281gr wide mouth HP in my Texan 457 at 25 yards she dropped like a rock, I was sitting behind my ground blind when 5 does came rushing in on me and as I was bring my rifle up and trying to get my Tactacam FTS 5.0 turned on the lead Doe saw me move an turned on a dime and took off the 3 behind took off leaving this young one standing there looking at me as I got the crosshairs on her and squeezed the trigger she didn't have a chance when the 281gr HP hit her under the chin.273225273226273227273229Here's a picture of the boolits very soft deform easily as seen I had them in plastic boolit tube in my pocket. These are traveling at 921fps 10 feet in front of the barrel 273236

Proving once again that a big CB is not something you want to be in front of at a terminal velocity of about 850 fps. This is similar to a 45LC from a revolver.

After hunting season I'm going to take my metal detector out there an see if I can find that slug all I found when I dressed her out was shattered neck bones and unless it fell out as I was dragging her to the truck I think it popped back out where I shot her.

That is very impressive.

Bullets can wined up in unexpected places once they meet a target. Found them in the back lower leg of a neck shot deer previously. It just dont surprise me anymore.

That's really cool. Looked up the 457 Texan, not an entry level air rifle is it? What do you figure for an effective range?

The effective range for me is 100 yards I can put two shots touching in a 2 inch bullseye at 100 and where I hunt 50 is about as long a shot as I have. There are videos of Eric Henderson harvesting a deer at 170 yards with his Texan.

I’ve wanted a sam yang big bore 45 cal since the late nintes. Just couldn’t justify the price, the compressor, and all the accessories to go with it. Imo I’d rather pay for a suppressor and a pound of trailboss and be just as quiet or quieter. Thanks for sharing!

I made a pretty thorough search when I dressed her didn't find it any where in her but that's not to say I didn't miss it .

I hear you brother it's a expensive habit I have more money in my air rifles than I do my powder burners, I love shooting them and casting bullets for them here;s a boolit I'm casting from a NOE mold 280-290gr depending on alloy mix wish I had used it to harvest my Doe273269

Thank you for the fine photos and write up. Movement or smell sure do get us out of range fast.
I have watched a couple you tubes on the Air Fore rifles and they are impressive. Then considering there were large bore air rifles in the early 1700's they have had much time to be well refined.

I need to look into these. A few years ago, I was looking into one Crossman made that had ballistics about like a .38 Special. During our early season where and how I hunt, that would be adequate if the rifle was accurate enough.

I wanted a Sam yang back around the early 2000’s with a threaded barrel to suppress for urban coyotes.

Crosman make a 357 now called the Bulldog I did a little work on it and had it getting around 300 foot pounds of energy 5 shot magazine.
It's a very addictive sport for sure I have air rifles and pistols ranging in caliber from .177 to 58

I agree Rich; I'm presently looking at the FX Maverick Sniper. If I get one it will definitely be the most expensive Arm I own. The one thing holding me back at present is the cost of a air compressor adequate enough to fill the bottle.

The specs on that Bulldog claim 800 FPS, but doesn't give a pellet weight? Also, could those be shot with cast bullets designed for .38 special or 9mm?

Yes you can shoot 38 special bullets I have a 358 NOE mold drops a 147gr hp that shot good in the Bulldog I had, the bullet was a 145gr for he 800fps if I remember right.

Ever measure the noise level of a shot from your rifle? I’ve been looking at big bore air rifles for a while but have never heard one in person. I shoot several firearms subsonic and suppressed and love to hunt with them. I wonder how the two platforms compare.

Not sure how to compare the sound the Bulldog without a moderator like the Pitbull Mega or adding a adapter from Donnyfl and his moderator is loud not the same as a 3030, my Texan has a modified R&L airgun shroud with baffles and I've been told it sounded like a big air nailer shooting into a 2x4 hope this is helpful, it is louder than a subsonic and suppressed.
