Did you slug the bore yet?

I’ve had 2. The first shot .431 lead just fine. The other was terrible. Suggestion to slug the bore is spot on. Will save you a lot of grief.

++++on slugging the bore. Mine was .432. Stinks because everything has to be custom. However, the rifle shoots great and is fun to have. Get with casting machine on S&S and he can get you some high tech boolits to get started.

Mine slugs at just a tad over .430. I shoot powder coated, gas checked boolits, sized to .431 and get about 3" at 100 yards with no leading.

As stated above, you need to slug the barrel to find a starting point for your rifle.

You all are lucky, just slugged my NEF bbl and it came in right at .433". My mould casts at .432, so powder coated some and they came out to .4335. Now to get to the range once it warms up in about a week!!!

I had heard that Rossis groove diameter was quite variable. Seems odd. Going to wait for a Henry I think.

While not the exact same, I LOVE my 44 WCF, shoots great and doesn't Lead.

My Rossi R92 is fine as frog hair with the Oregon Trail .431" 240 grain swc hard cast, and my Lee home cast .430" 240 grain swc. I don't see much point in painting boolits that do just fine unpainted.

ive got an old pre safety one and all I shoot through it are .431 lube sized boolits, but from what I understand barrel bore sizes have varied quite a bit over the years in rossi's/braztech's/puma's so it might be best to slug your barrel for an idea of what you've got.

I've been shooting 44 Specials solely with various cast swc's for about 6 years for my Ruger BH. Mostly I reload 'em, but I did buy a factory box of HSM Cowboy action 240's. They were not accurate at all! I cast about with .429's, 430"s (Speer swaged 240 grain), and finally bought 500 .431's from Oregon Trail. The 429's were not accurate. Long preface here, but if you have an assortment of those sizes, you might just load a few of each, and see what your Rossi like. By the way, mine will not cycle 44 Specials at all; so I have been loading mine in 44 Magnum cases with 7 grains of Unique, which give me about 1050 or so fps.
