Hey All,

Santa is bringing (already brought) my young kids (9 and 11) their deer rifles. Kentucky Gun had an awesome deal on Mossberg Patriot standard-size bolt actions in 7mm-08. So, I bought two of them, and then sent to Mossberg direct for the youth stock for each, and switched out the stocks. As they grow up, they can switch back to the adult stock, and this way they’re using a 22-inch barrel, instead of the 20-inch barrel that the youth models come with.

Do any of you have a good Unique-10g-style load or such, with a shotgun or pistol powder, for about a 130g Lee cast bullet? I would like to make a decent, very low-recoil load that my sons can practice with in these new 7mm-08 rifles.

Any help appreciated. Thank you!

Ignore this one. PLENTY of info on the site for this with a quick search. Just got lazy. Have what I need. Thanks.

Let us know where you end up and how they perform .
We have 7-08 shooters here that will find it interesting and helpful.
Thanks.

Not exactly a cat sneeze load but 20 gr of IMR 4198 with a 145 gr cast at about 2000fps has been shooting one hole 5 shot groups at 50 yds with my great grand daughter Savage Axis in 7MM-08. One gr dacron filler .

For my grandsons 10th birthday 5 years ago, I bought him a Rem#7 in 7/08 youth model and put on a 2x7 Leupold scope , I worked up some pratice loads for him to get used to it with reduced recoil , I used the Speer 110 gr TNT bullet using 5744 powder from 16 to 21 grs in one gran incurments shot at 50 yards. 5 shot group
16,0 grs @ 1,398 fps = 1 7/16 "
17.0grs @ 1,500 fps = 7/8 "
18.0 grs @ 1,586 fps = 13/16 "
19.0 grs @ 1,676 fps = 9/16"
20.0 grs @ 1,753 fps = 1/4"
21.0 grs @ 1.815 fps = 3/8"
I know you were looking for cast and i have RCBS 145 gr sil mould but the tnt shot so well i did not bother with cast as he only shot about 200 of them, now he is older and 6.0' and 186 lbs he shoots the full load

11 grains of Red Dot. Easy loads, cheap powder, accurate and little recoil. Great for petite women and children to learn the loading, trigger and shot placement. Cast boolits do a nice job on critters as well.

Thank you, guys.

I do have a bunch of those Speer 110’s. I got them cheap, too, way back when. That’s a great idea for these guys. I don’t have any 5744, but I do have some Red Dot and maybe I’ll try to work something up with that.

I’ll also try that 11g Red Dot load for them. Again, thanks a ton.
