Got around to running 3 different loads of BR 5 across my chronograph this morning. Powder was advertised as similar to Unique and to start with Unique data. Test was done with a Winchester 92 with a 20” barrel. Bullet was from a Lee, 255 RNFP, actual weight 258 grains. Five shots were fired with each load with front of lever touching sandbag. For a comparison, I base-lined with 7.9 grains of Unique, then 7.9 of BR 5, 10.5 of BR 5, and finally 11.2 of BR 5. Results are as follows:
7.9 Uniq 1070 avg f/s ES 49 f/s Group 4 shots <1” and 2” flyer
7.9 BR 5 944 avg f/s ES 139 f/s Group 4”, POI 5” higher than Uniq load
10.5 BR 5 1238 avg f/s ES 33 f/s Group 4”, POI 4” lower than Uniq load
11.2 BR 5 1305 avg f/s ES 20 f/s Group 3.5”, POI 8” lower than Uniq load

7.9 grains of Unique drops from a 1.02 cc Lee disk. I dropped 10 charges of BR 5 with the 1.02 disk and got 121 grains, or 12.1 grains of BR 5. As a result, I weighed the 7.9 grains of BR 5. For the 10.5 grain charge and 11.2 grain charge, I used the 0.88 cc disk and 0.95 disk respectively. As a side note, the 11.2 grain charge gave a definite crack when fired. No signs of pressure noted. Primers were still rounded with no cratering. Given that I’m shooting from a 92, I feel safe doing a 1.02 cc load
