How does accurate 4064 compare to imr4064? All my books list IMR 4064 but don’t show load data for accurate 4064. I assume they are close enough to start with a light load and work up? I need a replacement for varget since it’s unobtainable.

It is quite a bit slower, more comparable to Big Game powder than IMR. In a 308 I have to use a few grains less.

Accurate has load data on line for Accurate 4064 , check it out at www.westernpowders.com
No use guessing at this sort of thing .
This powder is also listed in Western Powders Reloading & Load Data Guide soft cover booklet...
cost is $2.00 to cover postage and a handy reference ... a lot cheaper than Western's new big full blown reloading Manual .
I just got the latest booklet , Edition 7.0 , and it's worth every penny .

My Lyman manual doesn’t list it at all. On the Accurate website they don’t have a listing for either of the cartridges I wanted to load with it. Oh well, I was hoping it was similar to IMR4064.

I used some years ago in .30/06 with good results. Like most Accurate powders, I think it's been made in two or three locales over the years so I wouldn't start on the high end of the load data

Give Western Powder a call. Hornaday bought them but they still run the place and will answer you.

I used AA4064 from an early batch when it first became available. What you have and what I tried may be slightly different, but still should be close in burn rate and should be close to the IMR4064 burn rate as well, even if the data is not interchangeable. The suggestion to call the company is the best advice. They often will provide test data that was not published, or, at least, they used to.
