Since Its been in my possession my ole 1920's Win. Src in 32
Spl. Has only seen light to medium level cast loads normally 10 grs of unique and a 170 which it favors . I want to load up some jacketed loads that would mimic the factory ammo of that era , from what I found that's around 2080 fps with a 165 gr bullet . Since I want to keep pressures low for the ole girl wht would be a good suitable powder for less than full bore loads in that 2000 fps range I'm after . I have imr 4895. H335, AA2230 and blc2 .

Thanks,Tim

I think BLC-2 would have the lowest pressure but I do not use AA powders.

I have 3 marlin 336 's in 32 Special, 2 -24" and a 20" barrel. I have used H4895 and H335 along with a few others. Mostly 2200+ fps using the available 170 gr Hornady and Speer Flatnose bullets. Levrevolution and some other newer powders can hit around 2300 or just a touch more. Mostly I shoot Matt's 185 gr Flatnose gascheck Lead Bullets (.323) using 15-18grs 5744 with 200 yard group under 3". Bullshop has 2 different 200 gr flatnose gas check bullets that are also very accurate at 200 yards with 5744. My Marlins are all scoped. The cast bullets are as accurate as the 170gr Hornady and Speer jacketed bullets. I have fired other 8mm .323 bullets thru the .32 Spcl. I use a file to cut the sharp lead point to a flat point, a full case of slow-burning powder and a light crimp using a Lee FCD keeps the non-cannelure bullets in place.

MY 44th edition of the Lyman Reloading Handbook (1967) shows a factory equivalent load of a 170 gr jacketed bullet over 30.6 gr of Reloader 7 powder, yielding 2262 fps muzzle velocity. the test rifle was a 20" barreled Winchester 94.

any of those powders you mention will work
just out of habit I use magnum primers with ball powders such as blc2 and 335, 2230

How's the .32 jacketed availability these days.
The only ones left on the shelves?

I have no idea I've had some jacketed bullets laying around for a few years and just got another box of hornady flat points in a trade .

I've decided on IMR 4895 the starting load in my speer manual is right in the ballpark I'm going for 2050fps and I know from experience that it always works well at reduced pressures .

In my 1949 vintage Winchester 94 carbine I'm using 36.0grs WW748 with the Hornady 170s. Measured velocity is 1923, sd=5 and and 5 shots at 100yds (benched using a receiver sight) go into 1.8". It's a keeper.

I would suggest that you also try cast at those same velocities.
