I am going to purchase some magazines for my 9mm 1911 and am looking at magazines from Check-mate and Chip McCormick.

Does it make any difference which company I purchase from. The Check-mate magazines are $3.00 less than the McCormick which would pay for the shipping. Maybe that should not be the deciding factor.

The ones that I have had the best luck with were brownell’s. I have a ruger sr1911 in 9mm. These have been the best. This gun sits under my coffee table loaded. The factory ruger magazines would sometimes strip the second round halfway out of the magazine. So after one shot, you would have a round stuck between the chamber and the magazine. Mecgar’s also did this. Turns out, the brownells are a good deal also.

I purchased an RIA 1911 in 9mm and none of the magazines you named would work in it. I tried Springfield mags that came with my 9mm 1911 Range Officer and they wouldn't work either. The first and often, the second round would nose dive jam. I was using brand new Federal FMJ round nose. If those won't feed, nothing is going to.
All these mags work flawlessly in my Range officer with any and all ammunition including my cast reloads..
I tried some Wilson Combat mags that have a small ramp built into the front of the mag and these worked perfectly in my RIA.
Whether the mags you named will work will depend on your specific pistol. My Range officer has a ramped barrel where the RIA does not.

My gun is a 1911 Colt Competition that came with one magazine. The Brownell site has 2 different magazines for 1911 9mm's. Or I should say they show two but one is not in stock (the metalform). They do not say who made the other one but it says Brownells under the picture. I also went to the Colt site and have magazines in stock and since the one that came with the gun they should probably work.

I have Wilson magazines for my 1911 .45 but they show out of stock for their less expensive ones.

I think I will call Brownells tomorrow and talk to them about their magazines.

I haven't tried the Check-mate magazines, but I purchased several Chip McCormick mags in 45 acp. The Chip McCormick mags were unreliable in my rock island tacticall ii. Replaced springs & followers but didn't improve. Just my two cents.

In my SR1911 9mm I too use the ones from Brownell"s they had a sale on them a year or so back so I picked up 6 of them they all work great

I had great luck with Checkmate Mags in my RIA 1911 in 38 super.
Also, if you decide to go with Checkmate mags, then check out Thunder Mountain Custom,
as they have the best prices on them, that I've found...

Wilson combat 10 round mags work for me in a custom Caspian 1911, better than MetalForm and Chip's. YMMV
The gun can make a big difference.

I have an STI Trojan in 9mm. I have 8 or 9 round mags from Metalform, checkmate and Meg-gar. Nary a bobble with any of them. However, someone gave me a mag from McCormack that choked. It is long since gone to the great place in the sky where wonky mags go.

Dawson 9mm mags were my go to 9mm mags, they are Metalform mags, tuned by Dawson and were match winners for me!

shot ppc with the same exact gun and mags for years. One of the dumbest things i ever did was parting with that gun. It was probably the most accurate handgun ive ever owned and ran like a 1000 dollar sewing machine. Hands down outshot the smith 52 and 952 it replaced.

I bought a Springfield Range Officer and bought a handful of Springfield mags. I quickly found out that neither the Range Officer or I liked the Springfield mags. I bought some Wilson Combat mags and I've been happy ever since. I've used the pistol in competition quite a bit and never had a hiccup with the Wilsons.

I bought my Trojan from Dawson. Dawson did a tune up on the action and installed a red dot front sight. He furnished two mags that were tuned to the gun. My teenage grand daughter has taken a shine to the gun and shoots it very well. It will be hers when she is 18.

Stay away from HGW mags on Ebay!
They are beautiful mags but I could only get 6 rounds in a 9 round mag!
I have not heard from their customer service department and it has been a couple of months!
I did get a full refund and they paid for the return shipping but I really wanted the mags to work!

Sent for 2 Tripp Research and 3 check mate magazines.

The only Wilson's I could find were $60.00 each and out of stock. I have 3 Wilson's for my .45 along with 1 Ed Brown, 2 Les Baer's, and one unknown. They all work

Thanks for the replies.

Received my Check Mate magazines today and went to the range. I loaded one magazine 5 times and it worked perfectly. Putting 5 to 6 rounds into the magazine was fairly easy but I am sure glad I had my UpLULA magazine loader with me. That spring is one strong mother.

Only used one in case my gun did not like the magazine and tomorrow will try the other two.

That STI is fine pistol. It is unlikely to miss a beat with any decently made magazine.

it was that tazman. that trojan was the most accurate 1911 ive owned. rack the slide it felt like it was running on ball bearings it was so smooth. Had a 952 smith before it and it didnt hold a candle to that trojan in any category. it was every bit the gun my les baer was for half the money. My buddy talked me out of it when i quit shooting comp and i cant even shame him into selling it back to me.

I have a Springer loaded. It was pretty picky with 10rd mags. I bought one of each manuf & the Tripp Cobra mags are what I ended up buying for competition. They always work. So before you go buy 3-4 each, buy one of either & try it extensively. BTW, my Springer didnt like the Wilson mags.

My Rock runs just fine on MecGars. But, because it's set up to be able to switch calibers, I use MecGar 38 Super mags for 9mm and 38 Super, and I don't have any problems. I've even gotten 9mm to feed out of a MecGar 10mm mag.
