should i seat my cast bullets to touch the lands to get a complete seal using smokeless powder? Im looking for top accuracy in a Sharps and High Wall. I shoot a cast lino bullet out of my 30Br lead bench rig and those are shot touching the lands.

That’s what I do for my Sharps rifles with the “holy” black!

Load up some rounds that way, load up some rounds just off the lands, and let the rifle tell you what it likes.

Usually, start by touching the lands and backing off .002, the go up and down to see what your gun likes best

I start out touching, and then try less and less to see what the gun likes. I have a hand held Huntington press that I take to the range when I'm developing loads, so I can make up a few rounds with different powder charge, and different seating depths. This way I don't end up having to make up 10 groups of five each, and then tear down those that don't work well, or shoot them up with less than great accuracy.

Reloads where the bullet ogive touches the leading bore cuts will center to the bore axis better

I like mine backed off a little in the event I have to eject a round without leaving a boolit lodged in the chamber. I'm not a cloverleaf shooter.

I usually have mine backed off a bit to allow easier chambering once things get a bit fouled. I find that they are harder to chamber once things are fouled if I have them seated long.

Unless restricted by a factor like magazine length, I've seen best accuracy loading all rifle cartridges to where the bullet is just barely engraved when chambered.

Mine vary, but most like to be almost touching, or touching for best accuracy. But I do have a couple here and there that show better accuracy with a particular load if they have a small jump into the lands.
