Thats me, The ugly guy with the red hat on.LOL. My son Devon took the 5 pointer @ 20yds. with a Browning Gold 3.5 loaded with #1 Buck. It ran approx 20 feet and piled up when it slamed into a tree head first. I never seen that before and was funny as heck.:-D The deer weighed 155 pounds! Not bad for a 13 year old.
PS- I cast the Buckshot from pure dental lead and they were loaded on top of 34.0gr. Blue Dot powder in Remington 3" hulls for his gun and I shoot a Lee Keyed sabot slug out of mine thats deadly out to 150yds..

He did great and hes shot does and a button buck before but this is his first with a set of horns on it. He still has a smile from ear to ear and sure he will for a while. The pics dont do justice for how big the body is on it. Its gonna make some goooood cutlets and steaks!

Congratulations!

Just had to jump in on the deer vs tree bit. I shot a deer a few years ago as he was walking along a trail. (50 cal TC Hawken with 90gr FF and cast TC 375gr Maxi bullet)

He ran along the trail after the shot about 30 yards and like yours ran smack into a tree at a curve in the trail. I have to believe that as they are losing oxygen on that run perhaps they get to where they don't see so good. I'll bet it happens a lot but most hunters aren't in a position to see it or the deer aren't running where they would hit a tree in the last bit of their run.

It's either that or there are some nearsighted deer out there? I've never seen one wearing glasses.....maybe some of them get contacts?

Congrats on the success !

I've had a couple experiences of this type !

Back about 1990 when I still hunted from the ground I shot a spike at about 40 yards and watched him run down the hill straight into a old snag and break it off !

Last season I shot a 7 pointer with the Marlin 375 and the Ranch Dog 379-210GC bullet . Deer was about 50 yards when I shot him and he ran about another 50 to where I found him . He was still alive and laying on the ground in front of a big old hickory tree . When I got within about 10 yards of him he jumped up turned and ran straight into the tree knocking himself back down and then I went ahead and shot him in the neck to finish him off !

About 5 years ago I shot a wide racked 6 pointer with my 416 REM MAG . There was a deadfall right in front of him and darned if he didn't get lined up with that semi down tree and jam himself straight up under it ! When I walked over he was tight beneath it with antlers sticking out both sides and dead as a hammer . He was maybe 10 yards from this tree when he started forward and his front wheels were gone while the back legs just kept on pushing him right straight up under the tree !

Out of close to 200 hundred deer I've killed in my life with about 90% of them coming from treestands those are the only ones I ever saw have problems with trees !

Im on my 105th deer and this is the first I have seen run into a tree headfirst. I almost fell outta our tree stand and nearly peed my pants laughing when he hit it at full bore. It bounced off the tree and my son finished it with a second shot rite where it laid half stunned from the impact.

OH NO, you are not getting away that easy! I need the exact load you use for the Lee slug. I have no luck with my 870 and Hastings barrel.
