I’m thinking of getting a heavier mold for my 45 Colt. I’m thinking the NOE or MP version of the RCBS 270 SAA. Are there any other I should be looking at? Also should I get a HP version or is it more trouble than it’s worth ?

I have the RCBS 270 SAA. It actually throws about 280gr cast from range scrap. I had Eric @ HP Molds mod it for HP so I can cast both solids & HP & cup points. Depending on the pin, I can do 250gr HP or 270gr cup point. I love the bullets. Accurate would be a good choice if you want alum mold or more cavs.
I've got the MP version of the RCBS 270 SAA. The hollowpoints using my alloy come out at about 265 grains. I use this bullet on deer and have yet to recover a bullet.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I’ll go with the hp version. What alloy are you using?
I normally use 95Pb/2.5Sn/2.5Sb.

What velocity works with that alloy? 860-950 ish?
Thanks again
Sooner,
Heck no. That's my alloy for about 1000 - 1200fps. For example in the pic below, the bullet in the middle was doing 845fps, and the bullet on the right 940fps. The alloy in both cases: 97.0Pb/2.5Sn/0.5Sb, with a BHN of about 7 or 8. Too hard and too small bullets cause more leading than too soft bullets.
