Hello,
I am a french black powder shooter and I am in the process of making a long range target underhammer.
I have a .45 barrel of 1.16 across the flats and would want to find a matching action and stock at a "friendly" cost , not much than 300$ or so.
I have had some contacts with bluegrouse but it seems to be very very long and difficult to have an action.
Thanks a lot.

I think it would most likely be illegal for someone to ship an action from the USA out of country, would it not be?
I will ask my Post Office today, and IF it is legal I would be happy to help...

They may not have a problem with a black powder action but since it's being shipped to another country there might be more restrictions. It can be done, you just might have to use a private-sector carrier.

Thanks a lot for the reply;
I Think there is no problem for the exportation of a muzzleloader part,
The thing about I am absolutely sure is that the importation in France of such a part is totally free (I had a discussion rencently directly with the french customs),
I am so happy that somebody can perhaps help me!

You might try contacting one of the members at http://vanwormerfamily.com/underhammers/members.php

I'm sure they could fix you up but probably at much higher cost. However, they might be able to refer you to a source of less expensive actions.

I wouldn't mind having one of THIS GUY'S (http://vanwormerfamily.com/underhammers/rjrenner.php) pieces myself :-D .

Probably the least expensive underhammer action you can find (in the USA) was made by Hopkins and Allen (H&A). They made a series of caplock underlever actioned muzzle loading rifles ("Buggy rifles"). One rifle was called the "Heritage" model. I used to have one. It was a .36 caliber, and I had it rebored to .40 caliber (1:60 inch twist for a nice slow twist round ball application). It was very accurate. I sold it 10 years ago. I THINK the diameter of the barrel was 15/16" across the flats (octagon barrel). It may have been 1"-can't remember.

Looks like this:

I just checked Numrich Arms (NY), "Gun Parts Corporation". They may have enough parts available for your project at some time (no action available, part 13, at this time):

email them for chances of availablility. They have a fore end stock inletted for both 15/16" and 1 1/8" across the flats. Maybe it will work for you.

My guess you'll be better off (faster and less cost) in finding a complete rifle, and replacing the barrel. The original barrels were middle of the road quality at best. You can always rebore it before it leaves the USA . I think Getz barrels did my rebore work (in Pennsylvania).

Good luck
