I am getting ready to start reloading some 410 shells. Going with the wwaa41 1/2 oz wad at first. Checked the local gunstore inventory and my choices on powder are 410, Lilgun and 4227.What would be the best powder choice? It appears H 110 is an option as well. (Edited to add the 110)

I bought some Lil gun as someone posted here they had good luck with it in some brass shells he made up. I haven't used it before but saw it was usable in magnum loads also, so thought I'd try it.

Assuming ww AA hulls, 296 is a classic, and Alliant 410 is good too. There is an exact copy of 296 in another brand l forget, is it H110?

Alliant has a good bit of data available for the 2 1/2 and one load in the 3" with 410 powder

Hodgdon has several loads listed with lil-gun in the 2 1/2 also. none for 3"

If you have an Academy Outdoors around you they normally stock H110 which will get you any 410 load you'd ever need I'd say.

If you ever run across 300-mp pickup a a jug of that as It's a great 410 powder also. plenty of data for that one at Alliant site too.

I like H110, Old Win 296 and Lilgun.

H110 and W296 are identical made by the same outfit (Hodgdon). Only difference is the label on the bottle.

H110 is my goto powder for all my .410's.

I would go through load data first and based on what hulls, primers and wads you have find a load you like then get the powder that is prescribed.
shotshell loading is not like metallic shell reloading where you work a load up. there are exact prescribed recipes that have been worked out by experts

410 is supposed to only be used in shotshells and not for metallic cartridges.
The others can be used for both.

I use and have used 296 for almost forty years . As stated already H110 is one in the same . I’ve also used 2400 a small amount and I have some Lil Gun an 410 on the shelf that I picked up in buy outs .

Another vote for 296/H110, there are loads for every hull wad combo in existence. I tried Lil gun, did not use it long because it dramatically shortened hull life, seems to be hotter than 296. It crisps the case mouth. I had trouble getting 2400 to fit in my AA so went to 296 and haven’t tried it in the new HS. No experience with the others, 296 worked very well and is available and useful in magnum revolver loads I use on occasion.

I bought the H 110. Was going to get one of the others as well, but could not find them, even though their website said they had them
