Good afternoon
Anyone rechambered a .357 mag Ruger Blackhawk to 360 Dan Wesson ? I have little doubt the revolver is not up to it.
Was it worth the time ? Real velocity gains with 180 and heavier cast ?

Without a longer cylinder, it would be pointless. Just use bullets with a nose long enough to take full use of the cylinder in a magnum case.

If memory serves, the .360 DW case "splits the difference" between the .357 Magnum & Maximum case lengths.
Some revolvers have enough frame length to accomodate the necessary changes, and others don't. There's not-half-bad article on the round, here: http://www.lasc.us/RangingShotDanWesson360Revolver.htm#:~:text=The%20 360%20was%20a%20new,the%20357%20Mag%20and%20Max.&text=The%20standard%20357%20Mag%20is,comes%20in%20 at%201.41%20inches.

The bottle-neck on the .357 B&D tends to create cartridge "set back" in revolvers. As charges go up, the friction of the casehead against the part of the frame that's directly behind it, increases. Eventually, the friction's enough to make it impossible to turn the cylinder. There's a name for that region of the frame, but it escapes me.
I always thought the B&D cartridge would be a DANDY custom caliber for the huge Desert Eagle pistols. The manufacturers were apparently LESS enthusiastic. Oh well...

When I competed in Sillywett I would use a 200 gr. rifle boolit loaded in a 38 special case.

As mentioned, probably going to need a custom long cylinder. Not a bad Idea and I read a thread on another forum where some one just did this. A cylinder that fills the frame window is a fine looking thing to me. Worth the investment? If I wanted some extra .357" speed goodness, then yes it would be. I've got 100 360 DW cases I've converted to 357 Magnum for a FA83 and I know they can take some serious pressure and fall out of the chambers. A few hundred cases and one could be set for life.

If you were to ream a regular big Blackhawk 357 cylinder, you'll be forced to use a short nosed bullet and who likes to use those...

I believe that I would either buy a Ruger .357 Maximum, or else have a long cylinder conversion done for this. To me, the smart money would be to just chamber it for .357 Max, rather than .360 DW. It would be MUCH easier to sell, if you ever tired of it!

Jeez this just reeks of a good excuse to buy another gun don't you think? Whaddya think fellas? :bigsmyl2:

Something more than 357, hmm possibilities are endless... Smart money is on this ^^^^.
